This really isn't nearly as effective as you may think. Just this past Saturday my parish priest approached my wife and I to begin teaching the pre-marital classes. We had a rather lengthy conversation about it durring which Father Con noted that he's only had three couples decide not to get married as a result of the classes. Moreover, I'm fairly certain that if one were to run the numbers there would be very little difference between the %age of people who get divorced that have taken the classes vs. the general population. I would suspect that any difference in the numbers is likely attributable to religious reasons then the merits of the pre-marital classes.
All of that said, I do think the classes are useful in that it does cause some couples to address practical concerns they may not have discussed.
BTW, did you not find the part on "natural" family planning to be overly religious? That was the only objectional part of the classes to me... here's some middle aged couple with 7 children telling us that NFP works and that it is the only acceptable way to practice birth control because any other method is interfearing in God's will... WE'RE TALKING ABOUT GOD... IF IT'S HIS WILL HE CAN FIND A WAY TO BREAK THE CONDOM OR MAKE HER FORGET A PILL!!!!

Actually, we never got into that.
The course we took was actually run by a Social Services Counselor of something like 25+ years.
Annulment was in the first 5 min. and that's the closest we ever got to do with the Catholic religion.
Guess I lucked out lol

For what, using other forms of birth control? Good news, there's an out! Absolution is given to anyone that confesses a sin, requests forgiveness and then abstains from said sin. So here's the plan; after your wife's overies are old and dried out so you no longer require birth control, confess the sin, ask for forgiveness, and stop employing birth control (which is a given at that point).... BAM, sin absolved... you're cool with the big JC! You just need to make sure you live that long otherwise Pergatory it is (birth control is a venial sin if I recall so no hell).
