Ten15:

The good:

+ Have remodelled the front room and downstairs room over the past couple of years. Very nice.
+ Taj.
+ On the right night, can be the best vibe around
+ The lighting
+ The kryo
+ good bartenders
+ Best DJ booth/setup ANYWHERE. Almost makes it feel like an intimate setting.
+ The security. I personally think the security at Ten15 is unappreciated. A club that has known to bring in rough crowds in the past (think basement) think they have done a great job. A lot of other clubs I know of that can have rough crowds have security that just falls apart. Yeah, Ten15 has to give you the big patdown, metal detect you, etc...but hey, they just makes me feel safe. I've been to tons of _NICE_ clubs where security doesn't do any searching and have seen some seriously messed up shit go on inside because it's so easy to bring anything in. I have no complaints about Dave Helm, Sam or the rest of the security staff there. If there is one complain I might have, it's that they could dress a little classier, at least the people working the door. All goes with the "attractiveness" that I personally think Ten15 should strive for (see front entrance issue below).

The bad:
- Upstairs (Red Room) still is BLEH
- Main room looks old compared to the newly remodelled rooms. It needs a lot of cleaning up and a couple other things.
- With the new VIP area upstairs, the acoustics in the mainroom out way out of whack. It wasn't terribly bad before, but with the newly expanded area of the VIP that's on the right side of the main room (when looking toward the DJ booth), there's a ton of echo when you are out on the main floor. Even when the room is full. Still lots of echo.
- - The front entrance. There has been a lot of work done on the inside (besides the main room, which still needs a lot of work!), but the front (the building's face) gives the big impression to some people that the place is a dump. This front entrance really effects the walk-by crowd! This is something I've said to peeps at Ten15 since like....2003? Back in the day, the plain building was the cool thing to do...but it doesn't work so much anymore. Something a lot of bigger clubs are having to rely on and the front entrance gives a big impression. This actually might be the biggest negative the place has right now as far as making it an appealing venue! Wouldn't it be nice to have people driving by or walking by going "Ohhhh, what's this place? It looks nice!" -- the only bad thing about a nice front entrance is that it can sometimes bring in some lame people, but hey...long as the crowd is generally good, that's all that matters!
- No outside smoking area!!!!!!!! IE. No place to just go and cool off for a second.
- Doesn't use its laser nearly enough. Great laser not being taken advantage of.
- No soap in the bathrooms!
- No Spundae
- The table/step in the booth. Can't step up and overlook the crowd easily. Miss going nuts up there when I'm inside the booth.

Ruby Skye
The good
+ The security. Overall, best security staff around. Even more so than Circus'. Circus' has a couple kick ass staff members, but Ruby Skye's is so professional all around it's scary.
+ The sound system. When the place is full the sound can be so crisp. Digweed on the soundsystem was scary.
+ Spundae has most of its events at RS.
+ Crowd has def changed over the past couple of years, for the better. I used to hate Ruby with a passion, almsot as much as Avalon. I can now say that I really enjoy the place most of the time I go there. Great vibes, especially when Spundae has Sunday night parties there.
+ When Ruby Skye dresses the place up, holy cow!
+ Simply a beautiful, elegant venue.
+ Variety of EDM that comes through. Trance, Prog, regular ole House, tribal, etc...it all rolls through Ruby Skye.

The bad
- Can seem to take forever to get a drink sometimes at the main bars. Usually faster to go upstairs to the bar tables.
- Lighting is def prog/house oriented. Don't have the crazy strobes, permanent laser, etc, that really does add to trace nights. When a laser is brought in, though, with props it's insane!! The lighting on NYE weekend was crazy though...they added a kagillion more lights. They were overwhere, on every corner, on top and below speakers...just everywhere!!
- A good chunk of the crowd is still the type that just leaves when they sober up....not nearly as bad as it used to be, but still happens. And it sucks sometimes.
- The look of Ruby Skye makes it hard to imagine it as a proper EDM club sometimes. You have to work on getting past that and then it's all good.
- I personally like proper DJ booths....so of course will have to complain that it's a stage setup with a DJ Table rolled out to it. The raised stage causes a bit of seperation betweenthe DJ and the crowd but it's not that bad.

Clovis wears the pants?! Huh, you learn something new every day.

I also forgot the thing I hate the most about the Vanguard is that there's always a line for the men's room... But there are almost always 2 or 3 open pissers once you get in there.... Can't people do blow somewhere else and leave the bathroom for those that hafta piss?!

Posted by Rukes on Jan-09-2007 01:36:

Vanguard's bouncers are VERY nice (at least the regular ones). You just have to get to know them. Realize they are VERY nice people, but they HAVE to put up a front because if they didn't, people would walk all over them...but for the most part, they ARE nice unlike most of Avalon's security.

yeah I really like the Vanguard and am very happy Giant moved there, but the bathroom lines are a bit of a bitch. And the whole bathroom attendant, I could really do without those. It made matters even worse when I was there for Lawler that he was UCLA fan and rooting for Michigan at the Rose Bowl. He didn't get no tip from me

Seriously though, my favorite venue is MNS at National for all the same reasons Jeffree said. And yeah the LA drink prices are my only thing I don't like about it. Its so weird having moved back to St. Louis and going to a bar, ordering a Bombay Sapphire and Tonic and paying 4.50 at the most for it! Its pretty nice.
Also though, I have really come to appreciate the no smoking in bars thing though. Even as a smoker I much prefer no smoking inside. After going to bars here in St. Louis, whether you smoke or not you completly reak of cigs afterwards. Its in your clothes and your hair. Its so disgusting. I need to get my jacket dry cleaned for the second time in the past 3 weeks because it just permeates of cigarettes.
ok that was completely off topic end rant.

Yeah, and he told me I had a nice piece... Kinda freaked me out.

No he didn't actually but seriously having a super-hyper-active guy standing there while you're trying to pee is really irritating!

Aww no way! I think I've just been going out too much. I want to take a break (just a short one), but there are too many good events coming up!!

Posted by sweetcandy girl on Jan-09-2007 06:21:

Spundae:

The Good:
The Staff- Cole, Sunshine, Tom and the others.
The Drinks- Erensto rocks 2 drinks from him and I am good to go.. all most too good sometimes
The Line- If you get there early you get to walk right in
Entry- Typically free on most nights
The Vibe. It feels like home there. You can go alone and make so many new friends and you can go as you are and feel confy
Patio
The Food- It is cheep and soooooo yummy
The fact that the DJ is right there. you do not need to be "speical" to interact with them.
Parking- If you get there early you can find parking on the street!

The Bad:
The lighting- Sometimes it is way way to bright. And the I feel the flashy light is used to much
The Sound- Since the room is bigger they need to add more sound too
In the Summer it feels as though they do not turn on the AC.

Avalon:

The Good:
The Sound
The lighting
Good places to sit- (you just have to look before you do who knows what goes on up on the bleachers ( )

The Bad:
No place to really go out side to cool off if you a non-smoker
Dj is far away
The Staff- Markus is cool but the other guys are assholes
The Drinks- They are expensive and weak!
The Vibe!
The washers, rude pushy boys, shirtless wonder boys, stalker boys.
The lines to get in.
The fact there are concerts on club nights and the promotors and flyers do not say anything about them.. leaving you standing out in the freaken cold for 1.5 hrs or more!
Parking- Come on no one should pay 20 bucks to park right next to the club!

The in between:
The fact they do not search you- Ya it is great you can bring anything thing in with you.. but that anything could be a gun. I had guy show me one night!
They are open untill 9am- Great when you need the extra time but I think that is what attacks the serious crack heads to the place.
AHP- I would like to see how it was before it went down the drain...

Vangard:

The Good:
The Sound! OMG.. but sometimes it can be too loud.
The lighting
The Staff- Super cool!
The outside Padio

The Bad:
no places to sit down inside
The Bathrooms
The Dj is far away.

The in b/w the drinks. kinda weak sometimes. Unless you know the bartender.

Arena:

The Good:
The size
Drinks- Ernisto works there too
The Staff- All most the same staff at Spundae on Saturdays

The Bad:
The sound
The lights
The curse that goes along with the name....

I have been to A LOT of Venues I could go on and on and on...

sorry to sort of hijack the thread here guys, I'm moving to Glendale in February from Miami. I've been reading some of these posts and would like to know around what time these clubs usually close????

Posted by TSG on Jan-09-2007 15:15:

Most of the clubs close at 4:00. Avalon has afterhours on certain weekends so they stay open way after the rooster ...

Posted by Dj Blurr on Jan-09-2007 16:44:

1015

The good:

Always a good vibe
Dj Taj
The best resident Djs than any club Ive ever come across.
Security is friendly and attentive.
Never a dull night.
Kryo cool machine.
You can always go, and see someone you know.
TAs are always at 1015!!!!
My Home away from Home on the weekends.
Inside smoking area upstairs.
The only club in the bay area with the ability to go till 8 or longer if needed.
Me playing from time to time at the club I call home.
The absolute best Laser and lights.
No Elevated Dj Booth, giving the Performing Dj the ability to interact with everyone, & fans.
Green Room Bathroom for the Djs..
Hot Chicks always frequent the club.
Renovations to the club are always happening, including the new walkway behind the red room that has a new view of the Dj from above.
Bartenders that know how to mix drinks.
Confetti Cannons!!!!!!!!
4 BIG SCREEN Video Screens, showing some of the best visuals around!
Super LUSH Cirque Lounge!!!!!!!!
You do not have to pay for parking if you come early enough, and there are plenty of spots around the club.
HOT Bartenderettes! Nothin like a hot chick serving you a drink when your shitfaced to the world!

The Bad:
Fat chicks getting on the boxes to dance during good dj sets.
Fat chicks with no underwear getting on the boxes to dance during good dj sets.
Getting a glimpse of that fat chicks stuff that does not have any underwear, dancing on the box.
Fat chicks who think they are hot.
Fat chicks.

Ruby Skye

The good:

Decent venue from time to time like what Dave T said, When they clean it up.
Packed club when big djs come out.
Security is eh.. so so.
Hot chicks throughout the club.
Hot chick dancers.
Everyone says Ruby has the best sound. I say its ok.
Lush Vip areas overlooking the Dj booths.
Inside smoking area upstairs, with a pool table.
Bartenders that know how to mix drinks
Ins and outs
Drinkers leave at 2, leaving space on the Dance floor to dance.
Carpeted all over the club.

The Bad:

PARKING SUCKS
Security does a shitty job at checking everyone for weapons. Ever since I have gone, I have never been searched.
Male Dancers that look like women.
Male Dancers that dance like women.
Male Dancers that are women.
Being rubbed up against by sweaty guys, on some nights not enough women in the club.
The smell of FUNK in the air from god knows what sometimes around 2AM.
Lighting sucks, although its getting better, with the help of someone who used to work at 1015.
No Kryo Machine.
Club closes at 4.

there is more. just cant think right now and my brain is on mush since im at work.

This was the one thing about LA clubs that bothered me. In Chicago they serve til they close (5am).

ICE:

Funktion One sound
Faarsheed - best resident in vegas
DJ booth up close where u can interact with the dj.
The vibe is like nowhere else. everyone is friendly. tourists come to have a good time and locals are big fan of the music.
The guestlists are cheap/free.

the BAD
It's gone!

Ah good one, didn't even think of ICE! ICE was awesome, granted they didn't always always have great talent come in there, it was still a blast. Sasha played, by far, one of his best sets at ICE. I'll miss you ICE
