MAX PAYNE? hehe i want to see that one...

i never got to catch final fantasy..saw some clippings but the graphics kicked ass..the girl was so real..but i heard the movie itself was pretty lame..
these game to movies should have a really good plot

hmm...haven't played the game yet...but the resident evil movie looks awesome!

(only seen the trailer for that too...no idea when it's going to be released here...prolly a few more months knowing our schedules )

They need to make a final fantasy, and do it right, borrowing a storyline from one of the games (six, or maybe nine). It would probably take 3 movies to make (like lotr), but it would be awesome.

What about Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? a simple, but effective story.

And whats this about a doom movie?

Man I hate the whole "game to movie" idea .. sure it's cool to see a game universe brought to life.

But that doesn't happen .. they are always SHIT movies!
Don't bother with Resident Evil, I have it on VCD and it SUCKS! Tomb Raider was crap (except Angelina's boobs which can act better than her).

Final Fantasy was lame - they were too busy making things look pretty than to develop any sort of story.

Street Fighter = crap, Mortal Kombat = worse.
Mario = sucked.

IMHO, making a movie out of a computer game is just silly .. they are totally different forms of entertainment. I guess it just highlights the larger issue in all entertainment - they're all out of ideas.

IMHO

hmmm Man this is some hard criticism,
I agree that tomb rider sucked.
but the other ones werent that bad.... mortal combat was a good one when it came out.
Final Fantasy movie had a very original storyline I think.
Maybe you shuld go and direct some good mavies yourself,
it shuld be easy just go by your own criticism and you'll make great movie.

well, i can tell you that it probably sucked partially because you didnt pay 5 bucks and see it in the theater, where there was good sound/theater experience (for this movie, i think its kind of necessary. some movies are just good in the theater)... so thats your fault. in general, i only know about 3% of all my friends who saw this who DIDNT like it. as long as you didnt expect some huge plot, it was a very fun movie.

i enjoyed how the gore was minimal, either wasnt shown or was neat (re: the laser scene which was ripped off from cube btw).. i liked the zombies, i liked the movie in general because it was sci fi, and the music straight kicked ass.

i even brought my dad to go see it (saw it twice in the theaters), hes the one who showed me sci fi my years growing up, and he loved it also and didnt understand why it got bad reviews.

i dunno. in general, i think its dumb when people download movies instead of spending a measly few dollars to go see it. often thats what can make a movie "bad".

Posted by webmeister on Apr-20-2002 09:19:

I stand by my comments, Resident Evil was awful. Lame plot, bad acting, the special effects were mediocre.

And I don't download movies - this is a LEGITIMATE copy on VCD. Not imported from Thailand.

But anyway, judging a person by what they think of movies is rather silly - people have different tastes. I didn't say your tastes were wrong, I was simply stating my opinion.

And I never said I could do better - and I shouldn't have to do better. These people are given multi-million dollar budgets to come up with something good, because they are "professionals." They are supposed to come up with something good.

Sorry, but game-to-movie conversions are just a shallow marketing exercise designed to make you part with your dollars.

Disagree with me if you like, but don't flame me or call me an idiot simply because you disagree.

Posted by dbl on Apr-20-2002 13:57:

im' pretty sure that if there wasn't a resident evil game and the movie came, you would think that the movie was much better.
the same thing with the final fantasy movie.. if it had a different name and wasn't announced as a final fantasy movie it would be much better.

i thought final fantasy, resident evil, tomb raider, mortal kombat for example was good becaus i didn't compare them to the games

then there is gamemovies that sucked, not only becaus they are based on a game, just becaus they totaly suck.. like street fighter.. that movie sucked totaly.. i really hate it.. and that's because i thought it sucked, not becaus it was based on a game and wasn't like the game or something like that.. it just sucked.

so when you go see a movie based on a game you shouldn't compare it to the game.. you can't get a movie like a game.. it's simple like that.

if that comment was to me, where was i flaming you or calling you an idiot? i was doing neither.

dbl: i COMPLETELY agree. i actually liked final fantasy. people go to movies expecting too much.. ive never played any of the resident evils which is perhaps why i liked it a lot, im an rpg person, not horror/action type.

hehe yeah i think gamers get spoiled and used to the 10 hours of gameplay or even up into the 80 hour for some longer rpgs, that a
1 1/2 to 2 hour entertainment experience about the same subject isnt captivating, meaning you either have to forget the game and enjoy the movie as a movie or be a die hard otaku
