hah I have to agree. If I was a football purist I'd also be unimpressed.

LA is where Hollywood is. Its a perfect place for his wife to get her career back on track.

As far as Beckham joining the Galaxy goes, it was never a secret that he is the only footballer recognizable to a large chunk of the US population and with his popularity falling in Europe, this was a great move to use that image to once again become a high profile footballer and promote the game in the US as well. I think its a great move on his part but hes not going to last the full 5 years (3 years at most). Hes not the fittest of players.

A rubbish player going to a rubbish team in a rubbish league

Wicked, aren't you just the happiest little soul in the world?

You know what? I am just glad that I will get to see the beautiful game live for the first time in 3 years, support a real sport for a change instead of one where people stand around and scratch their balls and fob into a bowl or play human bumpercars with each other.

While LA's at it, they should sign Zidane too.. he's now the second most recognizable football player in the US

Never been a fan of Beckham.
Always been overrated imo.
Good player, nowhere near great, just hype and looks (marketing)

But, this IS a great move for the MLS, no doubt.
Def glad its happened and hope it will greatly felp football (soccer) in N.America

You cannot compare the game here to the one in Europe...I have been to many games in Europe from Champs League, National Teams and league games...Footy is my first passion and I will tell you that I will not go to one toronto fc game...the quality of the MLS is ablsolute shit but I will be going to the U-20 world cup games when Portugal plays

If I don't care to watch MLS on tv then why would I pay money to watch it live and Beckham is the type of player that I could care less to watch (even though I saw him baloon a pk against us in Euro 04 HAHA)...now if you bring over Zidane or Figo then we'll talk other than that Boo to the MLS

Gotta agree. Purposely never payed ANY attention to the MLS cause
in reality it really is like a semi-pro league.

But this is exactly whyh its such a great move to bring Beckham,
especially to LA. He'll fit right in and give the league exactly
what it wants - showtime-like exposure, glitz, glamour...

But i will still never watch an MLS game.
La Liga, Serie A, Premiership is MORE than enuff, let alone Champs League

Too bad Figo signed with the arabian team, we would have been a good addition to the league.

$200 - there may be 2 left in the section I booked, want me to ask? The rest of the 'fans' end are sold out.

It is. You know damn well that I did.

Listen boys, I am not a big Beckham fan - Gerrard is my man without hesitation - all I was saying (and will continue to say) is that we all got to start somewhere - the quality of the football played in Stoke-on-Trent isn't wonderful, let me tell you but it is what I grew to love as a girl. I am happy that we have a football team and I will support them to the end. Beckham's profile is great for the league's profile and exposure and let's face it, you only get great football when there is $$ involved and you only get $$ when fans are involved and you only get fans when either you win games (obviously the Leafs is not included in this statement) or when there are high profile people involved in the league.....

Stop bitching and be grateful that in 10 years, we may get to see some decent footy in this city. The Americans just keep getting better and better.... who knows what could happen?????

Zidane and Figo?

HAHA What are you talking about? That wouldnt make it any better.

Both are also washed up, and should have retired!

You hit it on the head right there. This opens up a whole new group of football fans who otherwise wouldn't have even considered going to a game.

Exactly what the league has been looking for since its inaugural season.
Like i said, GREAT move by the MLS

But they are living legends of the game...Beckham is just shit

Zidane and Figo were the best players on their respective teams at the WC...they carried their teams with their leadership...they didn't puke and quit on the field then cry about it like a little bitch on the bench

You can make a comparison to Beckham being the Tiesto of Football - brilliant earlier on in his career but now a player out of form but brilliantly marketed to keep his superstar status shining.

But screw all that, he was the captain of the english team for 6 years which is probably the most high pressure responsibility in football today (second to being the manager of england ofcourse) and on top of that hes not let his celebrity status get to his head, being a goodwill ambassador to UNICEF's sporting development program and also a family oriented person who fiercely protects the privacy of his kids from the tabloids.

And besides, hes a proud member of United's famed class of '92 and thats enough for me never to doubt his credentials and hope he does well for the galaxy and goes out with a bang.

I agree his time is coming to a close but you can't take away that he was probably the best player ever at striking that ball. He left so many goal tenders looking stupid and frozen. I will go watch him play.

Bah, thats very subjective, and ur opinion, which ur entitled to

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-11-2007 20:29:

Rofl at quote "Tiesto of football" that was funny... and other post that Zidane didn't quit on his team - that was foolish.

It will be nice to sit outdoors and watch a game at the new fan friendly stadium.. what other options are there? Baseball is boring (except World Series) and the Argos keep playing their games with the roof up.

Beckham signing sends shivers through hockey-mad Canada
Thu Jan 11, 2007 3:03 PM EST145

By Steve Keating

TORONTO (Reuters) - David Beckham's signing with the Los Angeles Galaxy sent shivers of excitement through hockey-mad Canada on Thursday, triggering a spike in season tickets sales for a soccer team that have yet to play a game.

Within hours of announcement that Beckham had joined the Galaxy in a $250 million deal, Toronto FC said they had received hundreds of calls and sold 100 season ticket packages.

"The phone is already ringing off the hook, we've had over 500 calls this morning and sold another 100 season tickets," said Tom Anselmi, the vice president and chief operating officer of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), owners of Toronto

FC.

"There are very few players out there like David Beckham -- Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, he's in that kind of class. It's great for the league.

"It's really great for the overall profile of the league and the overall credibility of Major League Soccer."

With Toronto sports scene dominated by the NHL's Maple Leafs and NBA's Raptors, Beckham's signing brought timely attention to the city's side as they prepare for their inaugural season.

Toronto FC will play home games at a 20,000-seat purpose built soccer stadium that will host the final of the Under-20 FIFA World Cup later this year and can now look forward to at least one assured sellout.

After the MLS schedule is released in two weeks, individual game tickets will go on sale and the Los Angeles game is expected to be an immediate sellout.

"It (Beckham's signing) is the type of thing that grabs the attention of everybody," Anselmi told reporters. "It's huge news for the league because he is that type of player.

"LA is going to be a better team and they're going to sell a lot of tickets in every town they're in. He is more than just a player. He's more than that. He's a sporting icon and a marketing icon."

before it was speculated but now it's official so it's newsworthy, imo. TFC could very well sell out the whole season.. I should work off the beer gut, get off this tranceaddict thingy, lace up the ol' boots and try and make this darn team

Posted by sixtysix on Jan-11-2007 21:25:

even if you do hate beckham, he is still going to help the league grow. Which is definatly a good thing I don't know why anyone would be oppossed to that. MLS may be shit but it's getting better. Everything has to start somewhere
