Oh HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!! If they don't like it and respect it because you do, they can piss off! Respect is a 2 way street. It's part of who you are, dude!

On the FIRST day I walked into work and noticed the sheer retardation of silence, I was like "well, guys, I'll be bringing in my boombox next week."

On this first day of music, the radio played the lesser of all evils... KROQ. Anxiety settled. After hearing the same emo tracks 103984 times in the same day, it was realized that EDM was the answer. And it was all good for a while.

Until one of the co-workers whined for singer-songwriter crap... like James Blunt and other wussy whininess. A little compromise? Fine. But when it's incessant, I don't think so! She opted to bring in XM Satellite radio for something a little more "univerally accepted and people friendly." People friendly? How the hell is some lame dude sitting and whining about some chick he can't get people friendly? Boohoo, let's cry and make a support group at work now...

This lasted shortly, until we came to an unspoken agreement.

Today, the happy medium is UPOP--pop tracks from around the world. Yeah, there are some tracks that are... "interesting"... like italo-disco, British RnB, and Pussycat Dolls remixes. But at least we can hear commercial versions of Fedde Le Grand - Put Your Hands Up and Supermode - Tell Me Why and all those "radio edits" of EDM tracks that are everywhere but never heard. Put your hands up for Detroit!

I get shit all the time at work. I just agree with everything they have to say. I like to shine them on so I say stuff like "I listen to it because I am gay. I like to have sex with as many as three men at one time." or "Dude, I took 30 ecstacys on Saturday at a rave, I did it because it was my favorite techno DJ."

guess i just have lots of energy

and lots of you know i play EDM in my classroom every chance i get. try to convert them early...........although i sure as hell don't want them going to any events i'm at

So how did it go?

Some yrs back when cruising was still kinda going on around the Crenshaw area, my b/f & I would get daring... We'd drive by all the cruisers and those standing on the sidewalks and then crank up the music in my car. We'd be listening to Nick Warren or some Oakie (Game Master)! hahaha....

Sneaker Pimp

I share an office with one other dude... we subscribe to about every EDM podcast in the entire world and try to hook up with as many live web shows as we can. At first, some passer bys were like... "uhh.. i didn't bring any glowsticks today" among other crap. I too am forced to provide a short lesson when all EDM is referred to as 'techno', but I think it does help bring a small level of awareness to folks who would never know otherwise.

I occasionally get random emails at work from other peeps in the company who stumble across the Shake Down podcast and have no idea that i'm into that style of music... always elicits a hearty laugh out of me.

The occasional idiot will decide to argue with me "that isn't music.. its the same thing over and over again..." or "it all sounds the same". Well dipfuck, every MyChemicalRomance song sounds the same to me. Maybe music as an art form is subjective, and one person can like whatever they want. not sure where i'm headed with this, but it brings me to one final point: Trance is music, and music is art. Let it represent the soundtrack of your soul, and that's something no one should be embarrassed about.

I love putting peeps in their place when they try saying something negative about EDM. I especially love it when rockers say something. Fans of that gay emo waynes world guitar crap should really be the last people to be talking sh*t on any type of music. After I turn the tables on them and point out some things about their precious guitar music they usually STFU and never say sh*t about EDM again!

Posted by bas on Jan-19-2007 19:19:

I love the "it's not real music", "it all sounds the same", and "the computer is doing it all for them" arguments. So generic, and so easy to shut down.

What is "real" music? Because it's not from an instrument it's somehow fake? That's funny...ELECTRONIC music has been around since the 60s. So all the bands/groups/artists you listen to play on real instruments? Nothing is electronic? Well then tell them to put down all the vocoders, electric guitars, samplers, and studio equipment and make everything acoustic. Hey...they're REAL instruments right?

It all sounds the same....so you only listen to music that has verses? No chorus? Not a single repetition throughout the whole song? Wow, that's impressive. That I would like to hear.

The computer is simply the tool. The computer doesn't spit out beats, melodies, rhythm, syncopations. I think the person does all that fucktard. And guess what, he's doing it ALONE. He doesn't have a drummer, guitarist, bassist, another guitarist.

Give me an 808 over a guitar any day.

One of the main reasons these idiots they think its "real" music is because they are sheep that have bought into all the guitar hype from mtv, rolling stone, and other big media conglomerates.

Nothing is more repetive than a genre of music that uses the same exact sounds(electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic drums, etc) on every song!

WORD!

I posted this on another forum after some rocker fool tried talking smack on EDM. Here's my analogy for rock music...

Lets imagine there is a certain type of techno that, in every single song only and always uses this one particular synth sound. Now, sometimes there are some minor effects added to this one synth sound like distortion or delay, but it's always still the same basic sound. Also, there's always the same bass sound, the same kick, snare, and hi hat used in every song. You would think that would get old real fast right? Lets also imagine that this genre of techno that always uses the same sounds in every song has been produced over and over again for over 45 years, and there was even a hall of fame for this type of techno! That would be pretty ridiculous right?

Seriously, I don't understand all the hype over the last four decades of this thing called rock n roll and people's fascination with the sound that a guitar makes. It's actually pretty stupid if you stop and think about it.

The sky is the limit for creativity when creating electronic dance music. On the other hand there is only so much you can do with an electric guitar, bass guitar, and a set of acoustic drums.

Face it, guitar based music is becoming a thing of the past and electronic music is the future!

The sad thing is that many of these guitar band musicians have a lot of talent but they are so limited by the narrow creative parameters of guitar music. I can only imagine the great producers and djs that a lot of them could be if they would open their minds to the unlimited creative possabilities that EDM has to offer.
