The problem is we all know that we can drive when we are sober but the drugs stay in your system longer than the time it takes to sober up.. There are a few tricks that truck drivers and the like do to pass these tests.. but do you really think these tests are fair?

Fair? Is it fair that you are endangering people's lives by driving impaired because your too fucking cool to have a sober friend drive you or take the train?

I would suggest that the thread starter walk home.... preferably down the middle of the road.

Here's a wonderful idea to get around this:
DON'T DO ILLEGAL SHIT, AND YOU WON'T GET IN TROUBLE FOR ILLEGAL SHIT!

who woulda thunk it?

I agree with this for drugs that impare your driving. However some drugs like amphetamine/methamphetamine or coke are perfectly fine to drive on. I dunno about you but I'd rather have some fuck who has been up all night driving be wide awake because he took some amps than be about to fall asleep at the wheel and plow his car into me because he is sober.

I was not aware that a roadside sobriety test could detect marijuana. This is certainly news to me! And, if so, how do they know WHEN you toked up last? Depending on your metabolism, lifestyle, etc., it could have been as long as 30 days ago.

Exactly what I'm wondering. Maybe this process goes like this:

Cop (looking at kid who looks like he/she has had fun at some point in the day/night): "Are you high on _________?"

Kid (being honest): "Yes, I just toked a huge fucking chocolate blunt packed with the white widow!!!eleventyeone!!"

Cop: "zomgwtfbbq come with us, please."

Don't know if they are using them yet but last I knew they were developing flashlights that can detect THC. I know they already have ones that can detect alcohol.

Wow. Maybe with an effective roadside sobriety test for THC, we can finally move towards legalizing and regulating here in the States. God knows it's far less dangerous that alcohol! I'll take the stoned driver over the drunk driver any day of the week. Of course sober trumps all, though.

I've never heard of them being used in this way but there are oral fluid drug tests that give instant results.

It would be interesting to see how these types of tests would hold up in court. If you are charged with DWI and they use anything but a blood test a decent lawyer should be able to get the charge thrown out. The charge is Driving WHILE Intoxicated and urine/hair/saliva tests check for drug metabolites which is an indication of PRIOR usage.

I would guess they would have to use the saliva test to show probable cause to bring you in for a blood test. But even then how do they prove you are intoxicated. For alcohol its easy, its your BAC. But to my knowledge there are no laws that indicate how much coke, meth, E, or whatever has to be in your system to make you intoxicated.

Posted by lcid on Jan-22-2007 21:55:

threadstarter is banned, so i'm closing this thread since we all know discussions about drunk vs. high driving don't go anywhere good.
