-- Stereotyping people by the sound of their voice

yea, but not for long. i like to get to know people instead and then judge.

i have several friends who love to fuck around and be ghetto when we're out..just joking around, but they came from serious ghetto lives and now they have their shit together. they dress really nice (as opposed to like a thug), but you can tell when they talk, they still have that street in them, but they're educated and funny and artistic...you just never know until you spend some time with people.

i think most stereotypes are true for the most part, but like i said...just get to know someone and you might be pleasantly surprised.

here's the bitch part - this was while i was in college. and my roommate was dating the other chick. so i'm talking to her and i'm like you should bring up a friend (right!). anyway she's like ohh i got a really nice friend, here talk to her on the phone. HOT VOICE! While they're looking at pics of me - "you're cute!" so i'm like "what do you look like" - "ohh you'll find out when i come visit"

so - i had to spend the whole weekend with this bitch in my apartment. i was drunk 24/7 and when i started getting sober i'd just run to the fridge. so it comes down to "gametime" on sat night and i'm sitting there just shit-drunk, my roommate looks at me while she's pulling me into the bedroom hands me a doubleshot glass full of vodka and says "you'll need this". i take it like a champ, they leave the next morning and wake up with a thong at the foot of my bed big enough for me to wear. i walk out, he's watching TV, i go "we will never speak of this again".

Yes. If someone talks like a twat, then as far as I'm concerned, they ARE a twat.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Jan-29-2007 17:21:

I do stereotype, but fortunately I don't let that get in the way of judging who a person is and what they are about. although my first impression may influence my willingness to approach someone.

Posted by Amduscias on Jan-29-2007 17:22:

tho.. if i hear girls talking with the word ( like )

because like srsly and like omg you are so mean.

this makes me laugh a lot.

well then you just insulted yourself, which in turn, gives us the authority to also call you a twat.

Absolute rubbish.

And on top of that, I also manage to incorporate a tolerable and a generally accepted level of 'catchphrases' and slang that I find comical on a personal level, into my everyday 'lingo' and mannerisms. ie. I don't permanently walk around talking like a retard. Something tells me you do though - I bet you sound like a right cretin, 'f0 sheez dawg?'

'Werd.'

I'm right there with you.

I never really stereotype but if someone comes off as a pretentious arrogant selfish whatever assholish type of person I will assume they are and then proceed to tell them to bugger off.

Today I came up with an idea in regards to beggars of foreign origin.

What do you guys think of printing up these little notes that say : " Stop reinforcing the stereotypes society has about you " and giving these out whenever these people try to bum some cigs or cash off of me ...

i used to pretty much have that mentality, and it's still there a little, but i'm a bit more openminded lately. the only time i will never get to know someone based on how they talk is when it's an airheaded bitch who talks like a valley girl.

There is no better indicator of one's twatiness than the way they speak, really.

Voice discrimination is very common.

For example, high and nasal voices are looked down upon. Deeper voices are more respected.

There's this one girl a work with who sounds like she is 5, because of her tonality, even though she's around 19. Yeah, voice tonality especially can shape other people's perception of you.
