Ahoj! In Canada, we're a huge minority, but we do have a small area in Toronto.

I haven't been back for 10 years. I might go in March on a standby ticket.

thats what i just loaded on my machine via sabayon. i failed at the custom compiled install. i might try again soon butunsure. it doesnt run the best since its boring i686 packages. i want optimized stuff and no bullshit like the sabayon installer has.

Some GUI elements of Vista remind me of Fedora core GNOME.

One of the very first (if not the very first) games to be made using D3D10

Wait until you see the last game made with it. There are only two D3D10 video cards out now...from NVIDIA (geforce 8800 GTS and GTX). In some tests the higher end one(GTX) almost doubles the performance of the previous high end cards on the market. There are plans for still more powerful cards not only from NVIDIA, but from ATI as well. And I don't think developers really have had enough time to take advantage of everything the new cards and DX10 offer. Just look at the earliest DirectX9 games, and look at F.E.A.R. or Prey now.

With DX10 you're going to see less games that look like this:

And more games that look like this:

I only upgraded from windows98 to XP a year ago, and only because i couldnt find 98 drivers for some new hardware

98... was for the win...
20mb memory footprint > *

Posted by Arbiter on Jan-31-2007 11:48:

It's like XP, only with even more stupid shit to disable.

rofl not even close. the problem with vista is there are so many things you CANT disable without compromising usability on mobile platforms that its a pain in the ass. on desktops that NEVER move there are SOME things you can disable but unfortunately theres so much in there that you cant. i already tried when i had the beta. they made things more dependent on certain services.

haha 9x sucked ass. yeah the memory footprint was tiny but ill take a larger memory footprint for the stability of a rock (well thats all relative..but in windows terms) than a tiny footprint and lots of memory management problems, file system corruption, hard drive size limitations, etc. the list goes on. you obviously never upgrade your computer.

How educated is this opinion?

On another note, having worked with previous iterations of the OS doesn't count as being informed regarding Vista.

Well its just my educated opinion as far as what I think of it so far. Maybe its because there is simply little support for drivers ect. Then again I'm not necessarily a M$ fanboy.
