People who are on hallucinogens act mildly stupid and odd at best. Maybe their actions don't correlate well with whatever profound insight is secretly bubbling up inside their heads, but forgive me for being skeptical. |
I think a lot of it probably comes down to how spiritual you are, and how open you are to such experiences. What one person might consider a spiritual experience, another might consider nothing more than a cool effect of the trip. Comes down to who you are I guess.

I would like to try some psychedelic cacti sometime.
DMT?
Most people can't handle DMT.

i've been researching spirituality a lot lately.
i'm questioning my existence and trying to make sense of what to believe, and i heard that many turn to Buddhism or Hinduism after taking LSD or doing a similiar drug. I find it strange that all psychedelic drugs whether it be natural (mescaline, mushrooms, lsa) or unnatural (lsd) all offer the same ego-less state that eastern philosophy is all about. maybe the self truly is an illusion, and we will continue suffering until we stop questioning and just be.
i love psychedelics and spirituality type of things. thanks for posting this article!
edit: i have to read it when i come back from a speech though.

some people, maybe. but many just want to experience it without the dedication. but once experiencing it, many then reach it without drugs. if you read the article i posted you'd know.

| Through subsequent experimentation with LSD-25 and the other chemicals named above (with the exception of DMT, which I find amusing but relatively uninteresting), I found I could move with ease into the state of "cosmic consciousness," and in due course became less and less dependent on the chemicals themselves for "tuning in" to this particular wave length of experience. |

Music and dance is a great way to have an altered state of consciousness. Sure some drugs might enhance the experience, but it is quite possible to do it just through music and dance, esp hypnotic music like psy-trance or tribal type music. I'm actually going to do research as a psychologist (once I get my degree) into altered or heightened states as I prefer to call them. I also think that there is ways one can have these experiences through a gradual withdraw from wordly things or the stressors of everyday life. With time and dedication as noted, one can experience different realities or planes of existence...essentially an out of body experience. When i've meditated before, i've done a countdown from 10 to 1, over and over, and pictured climbing up a latter..and i've been in the beginning stages of an OBE. It's greater than a mere hallucination, although I don't believe all hallucinations are useless products of the mind that some psychologists, psychiatrists and neuroscientists believe. Graham Hancock has a great book "Supernatural" and there is another book called "DMT: The Spirit Molecule" by Rick Strassman. Good books that talk about DMT and how the experiences people have are very real, and similar to each other.

I've experimented with that....it really does mess your brain frequencies...brain waves. I actually have a theory. I haven't really explored it much, and have no idea if it's testable but I think DMT might be the neurotransmitter (yes it actually occurs in small doses in the brain) that is responsible for OBEs, NDEs and could very well be what we think of as "the soul". |
