Just because you didn't get any points taken off doesn't mean you won't get dinged on your insurance. Insurance companies look at the number of infractions and speeding is usually minor unless it's 50+ over and/or combined with a careless driving/DUI offence.

MTO demerit points stay on your record 2 years after offence date.

Insurance has access to your offences until 3 years after conviction date.

..and for those of you saying he was speeding/breaking the law/etc -- gimme a break, 125 in a 100 is a joke. Also, most of the time 'speeding' on its own is not dangerous (like in this case) - the enforcement resources available should be directed towards the chronic lane changers/tail gators/ppl who drive at 100 in the passing lane.

The 100 km/h limit was set in the 1970s as a conservation measure during the oil crisis. Before that, the limit was 115 km/h, even though cars back then had nowhere near the amount of safety features that todays cars have.

Speed limits are determined by taking into account a number of factors and then a tolerance rate is calculated -- the speed limit may be lower than what is calculated though... It is on those streets/stretches that speed traps are set up at since the speed at which ppl feel comfortable driving on that stretch is usually much higher than the posted rate - which is why you see speed traps in the same spots over the years while others are never used (even despite volume).

Speeding AND driving with an expired licence, you're just asking to get busted.

Which model is it? Don't cops detect when you're using a radar detector? I've been looking at something like this for a while, considering I speed like all the time (and my luck is bound to run out eventually), but the legality issues always held me at bay.

no sir!! its got something called vg2 protection hehe... its an automatic stealth mode hehe..and by the way its the Beltronics Pro RX75 .. expensive.. i got mine from a shipping company in the states for 350.... i have sensors in the back and front bumpers .. and i just used a relay output from the main panel(which its hidden under the hood hehe) to trigger my check engine light to blink and door open chime to sound ... pretty useful i'd say but still has false alarms ...

When I used to have a radar detector, I had it on my dash, but as soon as it hit red, I unplugged it. I drive by the speed traps without incident. This was before the stealth devices, and lazzzzer guns. Mine was useless against lazzzers, so I sold it.

I wish there would be some sort of radar detector that worked w/ the GPS nav systems where it would show the location of all the cop vehicles haha

Now that would definitely make my life a little easier.

Yeah lazer detection is the other thing that's preventing me from dropping the $350 for a radar detector - I know in the future lazers will be used more and more.

I got my speeding ticket when I was on my way to visit YOU guys!! My only speeding ticket ever! I just couldn't wait to get there.

Posted by mikester69 on Feb-06-2007 17:23:

I just came from court today and I noticed that everyone was either getting a plea bargain or a dismissed case. All you have to do is just show up and they will knock down the fine/points by half! They're so busy that there's no time for them to hear not guilty cases.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-06-2007 17:40:

Call me crazy but I like to be accountable for my mistakes. I would never fight a legitimate ticket.

*shrugs*
