I'm considering moving to US from Europe too but did you get informations on visa ?
You'll discover that it's VERY hard to have one even with a good diploma ... US has the worst immigration laws in the world.
If I moved, i'll consider LA or Mia.

Originally posted by DaveT People wise, SF has the best club peeps of any place around. Refreshing peeps. Problem is, people here tend to be very intelligent to the music and are very DJ oriented. If they don't know you, they won't come. Anyhow, the vibes here are why the up and coming DJs tend to love SF more than just about any place in america. Not sure if it compares to a few places in Canada or Mexico, but as far as the US goes we always get props.

...but you SF'ers still use the word "peeps".

Yeah, now there's thinking outside the box (also known as the States)...no Bush, a lot of friendly down-to-earth people, and the Canadian dollar which is cheaper than the USD and almost free compared to the Euro or British Pound! Montreal's great also, nice French influence, but be prepared for -30F and sheets of falling ice from the subway stations in winter!

haha i know lots of people that get over here easy! within 1yr. apply for a STUDENT visa, then IMMEDIATELY when you get here apply for permanent residency. it works. quite well too.

russia. not rich at all. they all saved for 4yrs or more to be able to get barely enough money to come here on a student visa. they start working right away.

I'm from Belgium between France, Holland, Germany & England not a so poor country ...
The idea of student visa is not bad but it's too late for me, I'm working in IT now (master degree). I hope it will be possible for me one day to work in the US.

the student visa info is good info. when i was in countries like poland, it was their dream to come to a place like the u.s.a., similiar thing with the philippines, as well as mexico,i am sure

if you are an american and you are reading this, i must say i didn't realize how appreciative i am of being an american citizen, until i went to travel abroad. when i was eurail-ing it down to various countries in europe .. i hardly had any probelms just flashing my passport vs. say, a person i met who was traveling there from south america. (he had to get visas and all prior to coming). the border police literally dug through his passport and visas. i felt bad.

(actually, maybe austria was a bit strict -- but i'm thinking it's because this country is wealthy). in the poorer countries, such as poland and hungary, i had the border person not put much of any concern into my passport. poland didn't even look at mine. lol.

in regard to other countries i'd like to eventually try living in, my top choice would be the city of berlin. i think it would be a great place to live. also i think germans are unbelieveably hot.

Move to Southern Cali. Best weather and best schools. OC/SD are the best places to live. Stay away from living in LA county. You only wanna visit or party there (Vanguard Saturdays).

Actually both Junior Colleges and Universities in Northern California rank much higher than ones in Southern California; in multiple studies too.

Southern California schools may rank higher in arts though

but in business, science, engineering, medical etc etc a lot of the programs up here in the past several years have ranked in the top 5 nationwide or in the world.

In any case Southern California does have great schools overall

Living only in california, yet having relatives among the whole east coast I'll say this:

California:

We get a noticable earthquake every what, 3 years? Even that, it doesn't cause much trouble for the most part.

It rarely rains in souther california, and when it does, its not bad at all. Expect beach-worthy temperatures from late March to early September. Speaking of which, there are decent surfing/bodyboarding beaches... however, (in San Diego at least) they occasionally get shut down or dirty from sewage spills that wash up from Mexico. I think this might have happened about 3 times last summer. Its definitely tolerable though. You'll get a pleasent amount of good-looking beach girls and guys. I think DaveT posted up about the difference in vibe between San Fran and LA. I've only seen such an awesome vibe one time in socal, and that was at Let's Bounce. Even this was blown away by Love Fest. The only person destroying the fun was the big black security guard who kept kicking our dancing asses off the spundae float. I think if SF had the weather of southern california it would win by a long shot.

Florida:

During the summer the humidity is crippling until you get used to it. I love the feeling that the whole state looks like the Far Cry videogame. I'll be straight, Florida has hot girls. Even my cousins over there are hot. A lot of people are very beach/water oriented. They have less taxes than elsewhere. And they have fireworks.

New York:

The traffic on long island or the city has never been that bad in my opinion (it does move), but the beaches there suck. Head 10 meters out and you're already up to your neck in cold water. I've been bitten by horse flys at NY beaches before. There are more dark haired classy looking girls in NY, in comparison to Cali's barbie looking blonde chicks. I always see good trance acts coming from NY. They also have a much better mass transit system than Florida or LA. The attitude of the people there is kind of... hostile but expected? The nice way of talking over there would be on par with a moderate argument in Socal. "Hey gibrone, I said mustard on my hotdog!" Its a bit of an overstatement, but you get the picture I hope.

I've been using "peeps" since I was like 13...and still living in Orlando. Moved to SF in Nov '99 a few months vbefore I turned 21.

I was never told it was out of date....or that it was even a fad really, lol. I pretty much started using it on my own I think!
