Oh...then your Passat's a piece of crap

Although I will say this, it's only been a month and I've already had the instrument cluster replaced

word +1...got an '03 1.8 liter model myself...fun as hell and very reliable so far, and pretty cheap to mod the engine..about 600 bucks bumped hp from 180-215..and a lot sturdier than i imagined...got rear ended pretty hard by a brand new CLS500 last fall and ended up with a moderate dent and some scratches...CLS was pretty fucked up tho

ive seen EVERY brand have problems. including the venerable toyota and honda. why yours has tons of problems i have no clue. there are always a few that are bad for some reason. its unexplainable.

that was 20 years ago, when every VW wasnt made in the Mexican factories that GM and Ford avoid. good luck with reliability, and costs.

the 86 Golf was actually light and nimble, not just a reasonably fast, overwieght jetta with the trunk lopped off|

38 years and still kickin. Vdub doesn't suck btw. It gets 20 mpg, and has about 30 hp! ^_^

hence why you stick to VWs with the vin starting with W. this means it was manufactured in Wolfsburg, Germany.

i almost had a GTI instead of my subie. MKIV overall good condition but the clear coat was showing that it was a desert car. it had a cigarette burn in one of the seats and had some nasty paint chips on the rear bumper. they wanted 17k and 4k down. they were out of their minds.

Posted by bas on Feb-08-2007 20:27:

R32 is sexy! I didn't know they were releasing those. I may have to buy out of my lease to get one

edit // That's the factory body kit I wanted! I couldn't find a white GTI with the body kit anywhere in California

You must have some pretty low expectations of yourself if a GTI is your dream car.

best looking Golf GTI is this:

best performance will be the IV GTI fcourse, but the II GTI is the best looking Golf ever.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Feb-08-2007 22:13:

perfect GTI = 2004 MKIV GTI chassis, VW w8 engine, 6spd manual, stiesque awd, and a nice coilover setup.

ps: thats my project i hope to start in a couple years. by then the w8 will be easily sourced for cheap....well relatively cheap.

VW has sooo much freakin history its awesome!!!!

I had a 2004 R32. I loved it but the check engine light was on every other week. The dealer would just reset it and told me to live it. I sold the car after just 18k miles on it. The guy who bought gave me what I had paid for but I glad to get out of it.
