If it's good enough for Anthony Hopkins it's good enough for me. God damnit.

I would love to get an old 2-stroke gp-style bike like an rz500

But finding one that would be affordable, and reliable, would be a challenge.

A good friend of mine runs a Hayabusa. She bought it because her GSXr1000 was too peaky. She's nuts.

be cause her gixxer 1000 was too peaky? wtf does that mean? and a hayabusa? fuck...those things are HEAVY.

on that kawasaki ninja 500 it says: "the rad is damaged but we will include a used one."

radiator? is this a pain in the butt to replace?

Posted by L.E.N. on Feb-15-2007 01:25:

Radiators are pretty direct and easy to access because they are in the front of the ngine...some bolts, hose clamps, and enough coolant to fill it. Not sure if its the only problem...maybe the frame is bent. Radiator damage seems too easy. Its been down before. Unless they are ready for a faster bike..tough to tell. Get to know your local riders and they will know who has a bike thats in good enough shape after being put down. Dont ebay a bike...there HAS to be a good bike local.

In aust we have power restrictions for bikes while your on your learner liscence.. no more than 150kw/tonne..

I went for a HondaCBR250RR, no complaints, awesome bike.
in your price range too. schools the kawasaki 250's..

Posted by wizniz on Feb-15-2007 01:40:

legit now i just need to figure out where i could find one of these "starter" bikes at lol

edit:
heres a local dealer's site: http://www.actionmotorsportsyork.com/used/usedstr.html

Posted by L.E.N. on Feb-15-2007 01:55:

Dont buy new! Every year there are people stepping up to bigger/faster bikes. Buy their old one. Remember its not "if" you go down..its "when". Get a used bike. You would be crushed to total a $10k bike for a stupid move that an rider that has time under their belt wouldnt normaly do.

Spend your first year learning, then you can get the panty droppers.

he's right,

dropped mine 3 times so far.. once on the track, highsided..

once practicing u-turns.. & once just walking the damn thing..

Posted by wizniz on Feb-15-2007 02:19:

well i just need to figure out where im going to get the bike that fits my specifications now

=/

edit: just called that guy. that one guy that i know who rides.

he said one of his friends has a 600cc ninja hes looking to part with.

sweet

Posted by bas on Feb-15-2007 02:36:

Don't you weigh like 100 pounds? Don't get a bike you'd look ridiculous.

Posted by wizniz on Feb-15-2007 02:38:

i weigh 140

Posted by bas on Feb-15-2007 02:42:

This is you right?

Not sure what year but a 600 ninja might be a bit much to learn on.
Take your first year easy. Be humble. Its not hard to get overconfident and put it down. Ill bet you think riding in the middle of the road is good...its not. Get an SV, its a strong bike thats forgiving.

Save the pantydroppers for next year.

Posted by bas on Feb-15-2007 02:47:

I keep loling at "panty droppers"

Posted by gehzumteufel on Feb-15-2007 02:49:

rofl do NOT get the ninja. you are asking for trouble. you are a new rider. you will kill yourself on that bike. its too much power. and that bike is touchy. as suggested earlier get the SV or an EX500. they are solid bikes that are easy to learn on.

Posted by wizniz on Feb-15-2007 02:52:

theres not much selection

yeah there isnt. but the real question is do you value your life. if so then get one of the two suggested. they are very road worthy, have power, are good starter bikes and arent too expensive.

Selection?! Its not a fashion show...you need to learn first then you can worry about looks/speed. Start smart or we will end up with a memorial thread. Take the class and get a starter bike. Those pantydroppers are very sensitive to overreactions. You will end up in oncoming traffic. Do some homework I spent over a year researching before even being ready. Get the two starter bikes mentioned and you will live to thank us.

Spend the first year taking it easy. You're looking at cosmetics over function. SV's are a strong V twin. I know plenty of riders that havent even riden a liter bike. They are happy to ride on the smaller cc bikes...when I say smaller doesnt mean inferior. Its all about the ride. You really need to do some research on this.

Posted by wizniz on Feb-15-2007 03:06:

well, ok... when i say theres not much selection, i mean there is very little selection.

so far my options are:

600cc ninja

stuff on this page

but ill keep my eyes/ears open for next couple of months and visit a few dealerships to see whats going on in the biking community.

you really think 600cc ninja will blow my pants off?

Id bet you, but you wouldnt live to pay me...

Dont under etsimate a 600 bike. They are some of the fastest/nimble bikes to ride. Put it like this a 07 suzuki 750 keeps up with a ducati 999. The CC's dont mean crap. Live to work your way up.

Posted by wizniz on Feb-15-2007 03:13:

neat. thanks for the advice- im sure it will prove invaluable to have in the back of my head when im shopping around
