| Originally posted by Philby haha ok so i downloaded the demo and played it for a few hours last night it runs, although slowly, with everything turned off, so the ground is pretty much just a green blob hehe. i like the way how the map expands as you go through the mission achieving objectives and stuff. i see what you mean by the simulation stuff, i like it when planes are going overhead and the AA guns are having a crack, looks good! i dont like how my tanks just sit there getting fired upon by the enemy and don't do anything about it, even when set to return fire. i also dont like smartarse commanders chiming in every now and again with the "what are you waiting for? you need to attack that outpost now!!!!", i like to take my time with these things having to change to "build mode" to use keyboard shortcuts for building is a bit dodgy i think. otherwise seems like a fun game! how do you rotate the map??? |
well!
look what we have here!
c&c 3 demo!
downloaded it and played it last night. all i can say is a big PPPFFFFFFFFFFTTTT to supreme commander!! haha. more involved, more attachment, more character, more detail in surroundings, MORE FUN! the only thing it lacks is a bigger zoom out haha after play supcom. more pressure! the ai was pretty relentless in their attacks in the 2 campaign missions, havent tried the skirmish yet. playing the supcom demo im just sitting there waiting for my army to build which is taking forever, and every now and again shooting down a group of about 10 planes that attacks my base. in the c&c3 demo the ai is constantly building and sending out forces to attack, beating you back.
you should give it a go raistlin, if for no other reason than it has cute asian girls from battlestar galactica in it

but yeah, the AI is pretty ordinary in supcom, however it is a MUCH harder game to write AI code for. you could use the code in WC3 for CnC3 after all
its about multiplay mate

and she can act too! id take her away from the cylons and have robot babies with her
i like doing things differently, i like some of the features of supcom like the zoom and the shell simulation. it just doesnt seem as exciting to play once you get over those 2 things. i like the idea of having massive battles on a huge screen. but if i have to spend an hour of that battle sitting there doing nothing while im making tanks, then it takes something away from the experience in my opinion. c&c3 has pretty quick build times for units and structures, if i was making a big deal of having massive maps and massive armies, then i think it should be quicker and easier to get to the stage where you have massive armies. everybody talks about the scale and the big picture strategy, but when you have to wait a minute or 2 minutes for your tanks to build, then farrk. so much time wasted!
when i say detail in the surroundings, i mean things like burnt out cars, abandoned buildings, worn out roads and stuff that make you feel like you are really fighting it out for survival in a war torn world. supcom has blobs. different colour blobs, and some blobs are more elevated than others, but they are just blobs. where am i? why am i fighting here? who cares?
you said you dont play single-player campaigns so that is gonna be lost on you but that kind of thing is important to me. i like playing a game where you feel a part of what is going on.
yeah, ive never enjoyed RTS campaigns. theyre too restrictive.
and i agree, CnC3 will look better and be more immersive from a graphical perspective.
but honestly, youre building badly if its taking you a long time to have a massive army. i can build 100 units in less than 5 minutes. more if i decide to have extra factories. there really is no limitation to how fast you can build anything, and i love the tactical and strategic variables inherent in that.
im sure ill really enjoy CnC3, its just not enough newness from everything ive been able to gather. you know, things that change the way you approach the game, when really it seems like more of the same. thats not necessarily a bad thing of course, i just wanna have to think in ways ive never had to think before. thank god for supcom
i have 2 land factories with 5 or 6 or something engineers on them, it still takes ages. what are you doing?

put your patriotism hat on raistlin!

Love the singled out location for 'Outback'
C&C3 plays almost exactly like C&C (the original), and SupCom plays almost exactly like Total Annihilation. Personally I find the build times for experimental units and structures to be fucking ridiculous in SupCom, and having something take more than 15 minutes to build even with a swarm of engineers working on it becomes slightly grating. Personally for multiplayer I prefer CoH or Warhammer: Mark of Chaos. Both Command and Conquer 3 and Supreme Commander are abit meh imo. I bought SupCom so don't get me wrong, I don't hate it, it just seems far too bland.
