That was Nathalie! I'm pretty sure. She got someone to bring her back one of those from Holland I think I remember.

Timo Maas's opener in Koolhaus was also one of the best tech house sets I've heard. I think it was a Freedom party...

Very tough to come up with three nights out of all that I have spent there, but here are the three that stand out most in my mind.

1) Labour of Love 1- Sept 2002
The party was all access but my story is mainroom based...
I was 18 at the time and used the worlds worst fake id to get into the club. I had come from windsor with my friends and really was only interested in seeing Bad Boy Bill who I think I must have downloaded a song from some time before. The Guv had not yet instituted the one way motion policy that they use at all access events now, and we were trying to get into the mainroom, and got trapped in a bottleneck going from the orange room into the guv. We missed all of Bad Boy Bill's set, and were forced to listen to the shit in the orange room for an hour and a half.
When we got back into the mainroom some guy named Armin Van Buuren was playing, which at first dissapointed me since I had an Armin Van Helden remix of a Daft Punk song, and I wanted it to be him instead. Then I listened to the set and it changed my life.

2) Ferry Corsten-March 13, 2004 (Diggers was in KH same night)
As Lisa mentioned before this night makes the list primarily because of surprise value. They had posted the set times earlier in the day and I remember looking up time after time and saying "He's still going?" His encore track that night was "Rock Your Body". I know it doesn't seem that significant anymore, but at the time I had just come out and I remember being so exhausted from his 8 hour set that I had been just sitting on a speaker off to the side, and when that came on I catapulted off my seat.

3) *I know I'm going to get some disagreement on this one*
Steve Lawler- Halloween 2005
Sure it was packed, and there was a ridiculous costume contest and jackasses in huge costumes that got in the way, but dressed in my best short shorts as Richard Simmons hearing Lawler that night was the set that opened my ears to house music. I'll never forget it.

This will require deep thinking.

Hmm. TBA.

Josh just reminded me of one of my top 3.

Above & Beyond - July 2005

It was the first time I had ever heard them live, and what an amazing set that was. So uplifting, really great amazing trance!! Tunage the ENTIRE night. Satellite was by far my fave track that night. I remember a shit load of TAs at the front of the mainroom just belting out the words.

I remember Mark's set afterwards was probably the best set I've heard of his too - at least IMO. That was Ilyia's last part as well before that bastard took off for San Fran.

Who was that?

Posted by shanny on Feb-21-2007 05:24:

A very honourable mention for me was...

Blank and Jones- Chinese New Years, Feb (24th i think) 2005
-This was the first night I met all of the "TA's"
-I was convinced Carney hated me, and walked up to RJ and said "You're Desidel on Tranceaddict right?"
-And the tunes were mental too

Bahahahaha Who isn't convinced that Carney hates them when they first meet him.

This would have to be my favorite set in the Guv as well. Tunes were mental!

I shoulda enjoyed that PVD set everyone's talking about, but he pissed me off so bad cuz he wouldn't even look up at the crowd but for 2 short moments and never smiled, and it was driving me nuts!!!! I missed one of the best sets ever focusing on that crap. Ah well, at least I met Frankie & Lama from Montreal at that show.

#3
Armin Van Buuren 2004 Main Room, Best Armin set i have ever heard period..... Got lost in the tunes and lazzzzers.

#2
Blank and Jones Chinese New Years.... Best Set Ive ever heard in that room, not even one second i didn't enjoy to the fullest.

#1
A dateless Mark Oliver Solo Set sometime in the past 4 years, One of those nights that involves podium whoring, playing tether ball with disco balls, and w00ting for one more tune.

That's old PvD for you...I have a link on him closing Ultra in 01 I think online and it was pure AMAZING tunage and he never smiled once except maybe at the end.

Here's the 20 second vid of him playing FAA, you can barely see him as the guy taping the vid is on the space just outside the Guv patio.

I know how you feel because RIGHT when I got into the scene was just after PvD, Ferry, Tiesto JUST started coming here, before that it was the HUGE raves that I missed out on so I can relate. The scene IS good here and you just have to choose which ones and not go to every single one. I think US 12 will be one of the better parties, Still have to see if I can hit that up.

P.S.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

probably the craziest shit I ever saw and heard was Freedom back in 2003 I believe when Mauro Picotto spun probably his finest set I have ever heard. I pounded it down for four hours straight to Picotto then left some friend to oliver closing and went to see Deep Dish close the Guvy, pretty sure it was them, my mind is getting old I apologize. I partied hard like no ones business until close at like 9 am.

We came out from a great night all sweaty and sketchy to find the Kool Haus's coat check outside and three of our friends who had been stuck in the Kool haus and had been waiting outside for us for almost three hours!! Apparently just after we left Kool Haus some idiot got way too high and was chased into the back area where he locked himself it Charles's office. before they could get in he was into the rafters and crawling through the rafters in the roof or KoolHaus. He crawled out and was hanging onto chains up in the roof of Kool haus while the party was going on!

Well they decided to shut everything down, stop marks set and kick everyone out and cut off the path to get into Guvy. So while we were havin the times of our lives in Guvy all this was going on and we had no idea! We thought they had left earlier. So we leave, go home have our sketchy morning and do our thing later to find out a few days later this guy who went nuts came with a friend of ours that we were there with.......good times, good times. I will always remember all the sketchy faces comin out of Guvy main room to that. Cops and firetrucks everywhere. Must have thought they were all busted.

Bahaha...what a night. That was the same party I got kicked out of the club for rolling a joint in the Acid Loounge! I got back in though. I went to the party with different people, but I swear I remember going back to Hamilton with you guys?

In fact, here's a pic of me and you from that night:

And just for nostalgia...one from the Thirst contest night with Oakie, up in the booth (do you still have these pics? I shrank all mine too small):

edit: for the record, my best nights at Guv were ALWAYS with you guys.

I remember the night that the cops werent letting people park in the LCBO so i asked him where I could park, so he tells me to park on the street, I asked him if he was sure it was ok, he replied, of course! So I party the whole night away at Guvy, close out the main room as I would do every weekend when I was young, this getting old is for the birds. Anyway, we come out at about 9:30 in the am to find my car and four others that parked with me were gone!! We phoned every towing company and lot in Toronto and could not find my car. I called this place three times and they said they didnt have it, finally we called the cops and they informed us it was at the lot that they told us it wasnt!! Wow that was a mind fuck.

Man I could do this all day......

Grandpa Hooper is ready to tell some stories.
