I've never seen him live, but I like the sets that I have from him..homelands 2000, sensation, etc...I definatly wouldn't mind seeing him live at all. I want to.

so does Timo Maas

From his live sets, i think he does a pretty good job. These topics about oakenfold and jules are getting very very very tiring! STOP with these fucking topics

well i tell u what annoys me more than repeat threads. People replying to repeat threads saying "ffs not another thread about this" just like u have. Instead of saying that, why not come up with something more useful and productive, such as supplying a link to that previous thread. Better yet, just ignore the thread and it will soon disappear.

I dont see the problem with a thread being repeated, as long as the thread doesnt get repeated once every couple of days. Its good to keep update with new ideas, new thoughts, and the opinions of those who have just joined tranceaddict.com

If repeat threads were banned, then there would pretty much be nothing left to post ever again.

its because he dresses like an ass and where's funny glasses, not to mention the horrible poses he makes with his face...

Posted by Ckerr812 on Apr-04-2002 05:28:

It's casue he has a hot wife and you are all jelious of his life *there I said it, someone has too*

Posted by Adjacent_raver on Apr-04-2002 06:09:

Ive seen the Judge live twice now. All I can say is that he prefers Australia to the rest of the world because both his sets were 100 times better than any Qontact, Gatecrasher or Homelands set that he has ever spun. He fails to disappoint me. And as for his production skills.. HiGate is just top quality

Posted by ascension on Apr-04-2002 06:16:

ive seen the judge spin twice... first set was mediocre... second was pretty good (keeping in mind he spun after tiesto)

the judge CAN mix... in fact i was quite impressed with his mixing, BUT it doesnt seem like he wants to put any... well.... "thought-power" into his sets. It seems as tho he just chucks random songs onto the platter without giving thought to the flow and stuff...

but i guess most ppl dont care about that... he seems more of a clubbers dj in that sense

anyone care to comment on why he mixes barefoot??? does he like to feel the vibrations from the bass on the stage he's standing on, therefore making it easier for him to match the beats?!?

never seen the judge live so i can't comment too much.

Judge Jules is a bad ass DJ. And if your name isn't Ferry Corsten or Paul van Dyk; etc... then you need to shut up cause chances are that you can't put on a better set then some of Judge Jules best sets. I personally don't think that he is the #1 DJ in the world; however, he deserves a lot more respect then some of you are giving him. If you are playing at tours as big as "Trance Energy" and rockin the fuckin house, then you deserve some respect.

Posted by c0ld 0ne on Apr-04-2002 10:20:

^^^

yeah, I agree with the fellow TA above me.

The Judge's sets from Trance Energy and Qontact are great in my opinion. Oh, and alot of you are calling his trance cheese? Why? Is it because it's so popular? Whatever.... I know a good set when I hear one and I think I know my trance pretty damn fucking well, thank you very much.

Though, I can speak of the Judge because I have seen him live in Toronto when he played at the Guvernment nightclub this past October. In all honesty, his set sucked the big one. He played almost ALL HOUSE and his mixing was mediocre and there didn't seem to be any flow or character behind it. Although, he did seem like he was into his set and the crowd reacted really well for a pathetic house set. But that's not what I payed 30 bucks Canadian to go and see him do. I thought he was a trance DJ, but I don't know since he played all house when he was in Toronto, for shame. I definitely would not want to see him live again, unless it was for free or something like 5 Canadian dollars to see him, then I would go. He really boggles me as an artist, I wonder what he prefers in his tastes. Trance? House? Techno? It's really anyone's guess.

So yeah, I think he is a mediocre DJ, not great, not bad, but ok, and a bit too overrated. He needs to be a hell of alot more creative in his sets, needs to keep things interesting, needs to DO HIS FUCKING JOB BETTER! (at least live)

Thank you.

I think Jules is one of the few DJs that still dare to act a bit childish when it comes to DJing. It shows that he's still a bit down to earth, contrary to virtually every other DJ that is as popular as him. Most of the Big DJs are too concerned about their image nowadays, and that is not a good thing.Saying this,I've never seen or heard the Judge outside of Radio 1 broadcasts,so I can't be sure.Maybe he's an arrogant bastard out in clubs?

Maybe you should do a little more research on this guy before you go singing his praises!! The Judge is an overpaid twat. Nuff said.

Sorry but you back up your argument with???? This kinda stuff really annoys me. I can take anyones opinion, and it is yrs so fair enough, i just ask why you think that Based on what research

Posted by Ian on Apr-04-2002 12:14:

As a DJ he's at the Decent category, below the gods but above the shite ones, but personally I wish he'd just do more interaction with his fans, Myself and plenty of mates have tried emailling him to ask for tune IDs etc and we don't get a reply, If he spent more time with the fans in this sense helping them, then maybe he'd get more respect as a person not just a DJ

Posted by flystyler on Apr-04-2002 12:18:

All i have to say is :

If that aint interaction with the fans i dont no what is

oh and

Look at all the peeps around him

He had people talkin to him all night when he was trying to mix, it would annoy me. But he seemed to be answering all there questions.

Posted by c0ld 0ne on Apr-04-2002 12:23:

Well....

Just because he interacts with a crowd does not make him a great DJ, although it does help your profile.

I still don't think he's capable of reaching his full potential as a DJ.

So one minute he does intereact the next he doesnt, jesus. U cant win. I thought the whole point of djing was to interact with the crowd

Lets face it not many people have got a good argument to suggest jj is bad. I only know of one of two, one being tu_face

Posted by c0ld 0ne on Apr-04-2002 12:39:

Red face

Ok, my last post was a little confusing.

You should read my previous post. I think I'm fairly justified in my argument as to why he's not that great of a DJ. You're right about a DJ interacting with a crowd, but I just think he's lazy behind the decks or he doesn't actually mix tracks well. I don't know, I've only seen him spin live once and it wasn't all that great. He seemed to be dancing and fooling around with records rather than mixing or actually paying attention to the tracks he was dropping. I myself am not a DJ, I just call myself one, and I do hope to be spinning trance someday soon. I'm just giving some criticism and my opinions, nothing more.

Please, don't take offence to what I'm saying. I'm just telling it like it is.

Yep that is fair enough, they r your opinions and justified. I dont ahve the right to say your opinion is wrong. I disagree on points. But it would be boring if we all thought the same

Who are you, like?! I shouldn't have to back up my argument with anything! If you accept my opinion, like you say you do, then why make a reply on the thread questioning it?!

Now because you've annoyed me, I WILL tell you what I base my opinion on and if it's not to your liking, tough shit!

Putting aside the countless number of articles I've read about Jules in mixmag and DJ magazine etc, I've also seen the guy live more times than I care to remember... at Gatecrasher (both the SSS and the actual night at the Republic), at CODE (Godskitchen) and even at the 1st Radio 1 Love Parade. And I would have to say that 98% of the times I've seen him, he has been totally eclipsed by other DJs that have been on either before or after him. Especially at last year's SSS when he played after Paul Van Dyk.

In my opinion, Jules just doesn't work hard enough on his sets to justify how much he commands pay-wise. And his mixing is also very hit and miss. He just doesn't cut it. There are a lot of other talented amateur DJs out there who would make Jules look like he had only just bought a pair of decks. Seriously, if I had a pet monkey and I let him lose on my decks, I'm almost certain he would be better than Jules.

The fact that he can be so unprofessional as to attack a member of the crowd just backs up my original point.

Jules in an overpaid twat.

barryfigiel
