i watched it last night during the midnight show. i wasn't really wowed or anything by the movie. but the visuals in the movie and the battle scenes were awesome. i liked how they portrayed the spartans too. i thought it might have jumped into the battle with 300 spartans fighting too quickly though, should have had more of a story, like show something about the persian empire first.

I would liken it to Troy in many ways, just more stylistic and violent. Very good movie.

"300" Presents a dual clash of civilizations. An action adventure that pits thousands of Persians against 300 brave Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae, it also pits millions of fans of brainless violence against a gallant band, or so I choose to think of us, who still expect movies to contain detectable traces of humanity. The oracles have already foretold which side will win this weekend's Battle of the Box Office.

Like "Sin City" before it, "300" was adapted from a graphic novel by Frank Miller, and uses digital techniques, as well as a palette of doomy-dreary tones, to fill the screen with striking images--massed armies, huddled phalanxes, piled corpses, loathsome monsters, a tree of death. (The director was Zack Snyder, and the production designer was James Bissell.) The giant-screen IMAX version, to which I unwittingly subjected myself, ups the ante from striking to assaulting--so many depictions of impalements, eviscerations, amputations and graphic beheadings that you don't know what to worry about the most, the body count or the head count. Being a Spartan, the movie tells us, was about pride, pecs, and abs. Being a Persian was about leering, body piercing, and, particularly in the case of the bass-boosted Xerxes, bejeweled preening; his costume would be a stunner on any runway in the modern world.

I saw it tonight on an Imax screen. It was pretty good, I had high hopes for it, but there were points that were really dry.

pretty F.UKING crazy.... the battles in this put lord of the rings to shame. spoiler* the lil battle between the king and the ogre was prety badass and when the queen killed the traitor i was like "yEAAHHHHH FUCK U BITCH! EAT THAT!" kick ass popcorn movie....lol that is all

Better than troy, almost as enjoyable as Gladiator.

Gets your testosterone going for sure. decapitiation, hands flying all over, sex scenes with hawt bouncing boobies. Whats not to like about this movie.

I watched it with my gf, should have watched it with the guys cause it would be a hella lot more fun.

for whatever reason, i never thought this was gonna be very good
heard a review of it earlier today from a film critic who i agree with 99% of the time, and he thought it was just okay

i haven't seen the film, but for some reason i feel like they're gonna use this epic overall concept of a story to make up for the lack thereof within the movie itself

for the people who've seen it: did it actually have an engaging plot, or was it just basically scenes to tying together the action, which was the heart of the movie?
idk, but i assume the latter, and until someone i trust says otherwise, this isn't gonna be anywhere near the top of my movies to see

i would say one of the best movies i watched in 07 so far wow ... best scene was when that old man lost his son when they choped his head ... you could feel the anger an such

gooooood movie

Damn I feel like goin to watch it a 2nd time in IMAX this time with a group of people

I won't say it was the most amazing plot in history, but it was far from lackluster. Nothing ground-breaking, but certainly engaging. I actually wound up caring what happened, and it wasn't too predictable.

The action was awesome, the acting surprisingly good (except for the queen...she was pretty much how I expected everyone to be), and the visuals incredible. The enemy soldiers were amazingly well-done (particularly the different masks), though I could have done without Xerxes (Gay Pride Parade Remix). I didn't recognize him, but whoever was Leonidas was pretty much perfect.

The comment in that review I posted about Spartans being about abs & pecs definitely hit home, though. Seriously--I know they were good fighters and all, but they were NOT doing plyometrics & downing protein shakes & creatine back then. It looked like somebody scooped up everybody from a Calvin Klein ad shoot, threw helmets & capes on them, and sent them to fight. It was almost laughable at times.

I expected the fight scenes to be far worse, especially after reading that review. I guess sword & spear stuff just doesn't bother me. Either that or they managed to make a gruesome movie without making it disturbing or disgusting. Either way, I don't remember wanting to turn away at any point.

All in all, great movie. Go see it. Go to an IMAX if at all possible. Don't bring your gf (some guy next to me was sitting with his, and when the first shot of the whole persian army came up, she said, "wait, so those are the Persians?" and I heard at least 10 "oi" & "pfft"s), as there are more than enough potentially awkward scenes to go around. Best movie I've seen this year. Not Gladiator good, but what is?

No, I didn't, though it's so blatantly ridiculous that I'm sure it's a common reaction. At least they're fighting, so the constant flexing isn't so awkward & out of place.

i have to find out who that guy was (the bald one with all the adornment and the piercings...he kind of looked androgynous).

i don't remember his name, i think he was a king?

yes, as for the comment about calvin klein lookig people, there were a lot of males thast looked liked they buffed up for this movie (it wasn't too over the top though). it looked good anyhow, lol.


i felt there was a good balance of fighting and dialogue...the acting was fine, not too cheesed out or anything. the actual picture and color usage was very lovely...

the only thing i was wondering was how many variations of yelling "SPARTA!" there were, lol.

"we are SPARTANS!"

I thought it was sick! Glad I went to see it, didn't have any problems seeing it on opening weekend either. Good stuff. I loved LOVED the actions scenes, my favorite was the part when they first encountered the Persians. The Persians charged the 300 and got stopped in their tracks when they clashed. I thought it was so cool!

plot?! honestly for this kind of movie who gives a fuck....this was badassnessness to the max. yeah theyre ripped as fuck but that just makes it cooler in my eyes. i understand tho ppl like u wondrin whats so great bout this movie the same way ppl were buzzin about snakes on a plane b4 n when it came out.

that part was awesome. i was wonderin ok how are they gonna take on hundreds of thousands of persians....but the way they did it/fought made sense having them battle in that little gorge thing.

Plus the whole phalanx structure. Each one protected himself as well as the one to his right or left or whatever. Pretty sweet. Also if you noticed, they all moved at once, raised their shields and attacked at the same time as opposed to just running down the field and attacking.

The ending melted faces, 10,000k of them

But the movie is easily on my top 10 favorite movies of all time. I wouldnt mind if it was 4 hours long, it was that good in my opinion. And the music was amazing.

lol yeah....i imagine that battle would be over in 15 minutes after seeing what just 300 can do. those guys were just disgusting
