Dude, as I was digging through old party reviews (which is what actually spawned this thread, thanks for giving me credit, Aktie), and I LOVE your old ass trance-cracker posts. The contrast to your posts now is infinitely hilarious:

Finally, my own first review:
REVIEW: Together As One @ The Docks, 2005

Anyway, first and foremost, the music:
Hardwick put on an absolutely solid set. Nice buildups, nice breaks, nice, pumping tunes. Danced non-stop pretty much throughout his whole set. I really didn't know what to expect from this guy since I didn't really know all that much about him, but damn, was I pleasantly surprised! Definitely a DJ I'll be looking out for in the future. Needless to say, he created the right atmosphere for Tracid to come into. Tracid opened up with an absolutely wicked track: Hennes & Cold - The Second Trip (DJ Scot Project mix). I was going nuts when he was playing that. After that though, Tracid seems to have 'cooled off'. The only memorable songs were the Hennes & Cold track, Asys - No More Fucking Rock & Roll (I had a good feeling he would be playing that tune - glad I didn't miss that one), and the Derbus track. The stuff in between was just filler imo. I mean, I love a good bass line and all, but not that much - it's good to headbang to, but a nice melody to actually dance to was missing most of the time. And you could see that he was losing the crowd in between songs - people weren't really dancing as much as moving to the beats. Hardwick on the other hand, kept the floor jumping the whole set. Tracid didn't dissapoint, but he didn't really live up to the expectations either.

The coat check:
Yea, I'll agree, that was just ridiculous. The checking-in AND the checking-out. Prolly spend a good 1.5 hours in that little room in total. Complete waste of time. The bouncers were acting like assholes to everybody too. Fuck, I know you have a job to do, but no need to be THAT pissy.

The floor:
Awesome. Lots of room to dance, and most importantly, IT WAS COOL. The main room had PERFECT temperature. You could keep going forever and not even feel the least bit uncomfortable. The stage was a little too cool though. I came up there a few times to rest, and got cold in like a few minutes. Of course, maybe that was the organisers' way of saying "get your ass back on the dance floor" ;P The little candy ravers didn't bother me at all - I'm 6"4', so I literally and figuratively just looked down on them. Plus, for most of Hardwick's set I was dancing with this tall, sexy brunette, so I didn't mind them at all (prolly increased my enjoyment of Hardwick's set too).

In conclusion, awesome night. Although Tracid could have played a little bit more trance and a little less filler.

I agree with you that the contrast is hilarious, but that party was about a year and a half after my trance cracker days. That was the first trance set I had heard in quite some time.

Graham, that was ME who brought their cousin to Viva for Talla, his first trance jam. I met Rj there for the first time.

Man...my first review will probably be in 01 or 02 I'll have to scroll back like mad. I have a bajillion pics from the 'old days', ones from the Viva one year Anniversary in 03 I think it was. Wait until tomorrow.

As for the famous 3. Are they still around?

Here's the fearsome foursome though (or was it stellar alliance? Meh, Liam where the fuck do you come up with these names manG?? lol) :

Can't you somehow.. just... fall in love with Trance again? Hmmm? Just give it another go. How about it? I know she's not too pretty now, but I bet you and her have had some pretty good times together.

He doesn't hate it I don't think, he's just very picky, like me when it comes to trance. A lot of us who've been here a while are very selective when it comes to parties now...(esp trance ones).

I never said he hated Trance.

I want to thank everyone for welcoming my girlfriend and myself last night. It was great to meet you guys, you DEFINATELY were all a part of a very memorable birthday for me. I'm already looking forward to the next event - PVD in detroit! An extra special thank you to Tyler for inviting me to the pre party, and Ampz for holding it.

Thanks again, you all know how to tear it up!

Having been a lurker for at least a year, I finally decided to do it up with the TA crew, for my birthday none the less. It was a great night!
Probably in my top 10 parties of all time

Hehe, this is a great thread. This was one of the first parties where I wrote a full-on review and one where I met a lot of TA's.

Let me start by saying that I have been waiting for this show for nearly 2 full years. I started to really get hard into trance back then but ended up missing his shows previous around the area because of work and such. So this night, I was pumped beyond belief.

Originally Alex (Kandaio) was to setup an interview with Tiesto since he A: did one with him in Montreal earlier in the year and B: because hes signed to Magik. In the end that didnt work out because Tijs isnt going to be doing any media press in North America, save for a possible 30 minute spot in Miami. So, we ended up thinking we were in a panic because we hadnt worried about tickets. But, not to worry; our favorite 'secret source' came through for us giving us both VIP passes for the event.

I had been listening to RJs 2hp.ca for about a day and a half straight up until the time I left pumping myself up and annoying the roommate and girlfriend up the wall in the process. Finally the time came. I got the message from Alex that we would be taking off around 5ish that night. So, I burned a couple Tiesto CDs as well as grabbed my Just Be and Parade of the Athletes album, packed up a change of clothes and the rest, picked up Alex and our buddy Scott, and off to Toronto we went.

We arrived at Scotts friends place by around 9pm (apparently by the time we actually left Alexs, got gas, stopped for dinner, etc., we didnt leave until like 7pm) promptly to find out that Scotts buddy never actually got a ticket. So, we basically walked in, turned around, and walked back out again to drive down to The Docks to see about getting him a ticket.

When we turned that corner to see; Tiesto December 11th I just about lost it right there. I knew I had finally got there and it was only a few hours until I would be seeing the man himself for the first time. We quickly found a parking spot along the street and in dashed Scott and his buddy to see about tickets. That left Alex and I to stand in the freezing cold wondering what we were supposed to do. So we hopped inside that music van and quizzed the two guys inside on why they werent playing Tiesto and after a few minutes had Parade of the Athletes and Tiesto in Concert going in the van.

It was nearly 10:30-11pm when Alex and I finally decided that it was go-time and we walked up to prove that we were on the list. There was a slight problem thoughapparently even though youre on the list and have VIP; you still have to wait in the same line as the people waiting to get tickets. Slight miscommunication on the part of the staff, but I guess thats ok. We ended up talking our way around the line but it took an extra 15-20 minutes of waiting to do so. At this point I was getting slightly annoyed, but thats just fine.

We got into the side room of the club and bam, there it was; my first look at The Docks. Looked great for a first look thats for sure. Sean Miller was up in the booth doing a little bit to get the crowd going. We decided to check our coats. Bad idea. Very, bad idea. From insertion into the coat check line until exiting took us nearly 45 minutes. We didnt get out of the line until about 11:45 fearing we were going to miss the start of Tiestos set. The line was absolute chaos. Horridly run; people pushing and shoving, no exit line once you got a coat in, etc. Just terrible. I was getting increasingly pissed at this point. I was starting to lose my excitement for the night at hand after all this waiting around. Quite ridiculous. Shame on The Docks event staff for this one.

But, we were in the club and there was no way short of being gunned down or stabbed right there in the club that I was actually going to miss Tiesto now. Armed with my camera (with extra batteries of course), my CDs and marker, and at this point a grumpy face, we went into the main room to find a good spot. We went all the way to the far right front side to the left of the DJ booth and to my amazement there were a bunch of TAs waiting there partying to Seans beats. I FINALLY met RJ after the long awaited introduction. Many more TAs; Im sorry, I am horrible with names. My energy level began to pick back up as I began to realize that the time to start the show was soon to happen.

Alex and I collected a spot right in front of the mid-stage to prepare ourselves. We noticed a group of people here from London right in front of us which was pretty cool. All of a sudden there screamed out this huge hiss sound and the light stage slowly lowered down to no less than 20 feet off of our heads. Then the rush from the dry-ice machine came raining down on us from the ceiling in a pillar of fog. Utterly amazing! Sean finished up to the absolute roar of the crowd and then it happened;

Toronto, are you ready? Please welcome, the number one DJ in the world DJ TIESTO!

He walked onto the stage, threw on the headphones, gave the crowd a quick acknowledgment and into Way Out West Killa he went. When the beat dropped the floor shook with the rock of the crowd. Chants of TI-ES-TO ringing around the club overtop of the music was enough to send shivers down your spine. It was surreal. All of a sudden, not 20 rows in front of me went up a gigantic banner stating nothing else than; TIESTO IS TRANCE. Tijs leaned over laughing and pointing in agreement at the sign. It was clear that this night was to be none other than amazing.

We had to move though as the crowd was surging too much and it was starting to get a little to pushy at that stage so off we went back to the left of the DJ booth with the TAs. We hung out there for quite a while dancing around and taking pictures of everyone (to be uploaded soon). We wanted to try and stay close to the entrance of the DJ booth to see if we could get up there since we were on Nettwerks list but werent sure if it could happen. Then I made a little breakthrough; Sean was walking upstairs and I grabbed his attention letting him know his set was awesome and asked if he could grab one of the guy's upstairs for us since we needed to talk to him. He did, and down he came. He came down and chatted for a bit and he noticed I had two Tiesto CDs in hand, grabbed them from me and said hed be right back. Well I just about hit the floor at that. No less than 2 minutes later he came back down and handed me two freshly signed CDs by Tiesto himself. It was nice of him to sign the inlays and not just the plastic coverings too, all in his traditional silver pen.

Well that made my night for sure. It couldnt get any better than that, or so I thought. I was so pumped at this point that I just started dancing like crazy and believe me it most likely wasnt pretty because I sure cant dance. Thats why I DJ, because I cant dance but I love the music. But as Im freaking out to the beat, who looks over the side of the booth right down at Alex and I? I threw up my arms in excitement showing him the CDs hed just signed and he gave me a nice thumbs-up and his huge smile in return. I was on quite the high.

There was nothing else to do at this point than dive back into the pack of people that was considered a crowd that night. We made ourselves right down to the middle again and onto the stage. I may sound a little crazy here, but since Alex and Tiesto know each other well and all, Im pretty sure that for the next hour or so that we were on that podium he was glancing over in our direction every few seconds grinning in excitement knowing that people who he was partnered with were still freaking out to his music. Tiesto was truly having himself a wonderful night. It was amazing to see how much energy he was putting into his set. Pumping his fists, jumping around in pure Tiesto fashion, and playing straight to the crowd. He was an incredible sight to see. Then I had an almost disastrous turn of events. Up on the stage beside me was this wigger type moron who was flailing his arms about jumping up and down completely off beat. All of a sudden *WHAM* he smoked my CDs and all I see are my brand new autographed Tiesto CDs flying through the air into the crowd. I literally dove after them saving them from the crushing feet of the crowd. It took all my effort not to go back and tackle that fool but instead I refrained and kept my temper to a minimal roar.

Back down to the left we went near the end of the night, having Tijs looking down on us every few minutes giving us the pumping fist or clapping motion. It was truly like we were playing to him and vice versa. Ive never felt a more personal show. Even better was when RJ came running up to me to present me with the his newly signed Parade of the Athletes and Nyana vinyl. Not less than 2 minutes after than Tiesto looked down on us again and RJ and I held up our signed collection. Tiesto smiled and laughed in our direction once again giving us a thumbs-up. So incredible!

Unfortunately the show did have to end and because of the craziness at the entrance to the DJ booth, we did not end up getting back up there to talk with him. It was quite frustrating but nonetheless amazing. An amazing bit was after the show was finished there were about 100 people left over with Tijs in the booth. He began autographing and throwing out flyers to the crowd to keep them happy. He had to have thrown 50+ out. I managed to get myself one which was nice to add to the collection for the night. As we were heading off to get our coats I looked up at Tijs just as he was looking down on me. I gave him a thumbs-up and mouthed Thank you, amazing! He nodded in agreement and waved me goodbye smiling all the while.

This had to have been the most amazing night of my life. Other than the annoying waits and the moron smacking my CDs out my hand it was perfect.

Highlights;

7.5 hrs of Tiesto
Autographed Just Be and Parade of the Athletes albums
Meeting all the TAs, especially RJ!
Tiesto - Traffic (Montana edit)
Tiesto - Love Comes Again - with the crowd roaring to the vocals
Tiesto - Lethal Industry (edit)
Max Graham Air Tight just amazing
Armin van Buuren vs MIKE Pound just love this tune
Conjure One - Tears From the Moon (feat. Sarah O'Connor) (Tiesto mix) never heard this in a club
Yahel Voyage
'Madonna - Die Another Day (Tiesto mix) amazing track, was really hoping for this
Remy and Roland Klinkenberg - Till ya Drop! CHUNE!!!

All in all it was a night to remember. To all the TAs who I met, thank you for making this night so memorable for me. Until next time..

ROFL, I can't believe I actually believed this guy...

To date, this is still the best party I've been to. Great vibe, great music, best performance I've seen. It's a night I will never forget. Also met so many amazing people including RvK and Erwin all the way from the UK/Holland. Apparently Kelly (Yankeebaby) was there with them that night and it's through them that I met her too. So many amazing things happened that night, just an incredible and unforgettable time.

Indeed we did. I will be giving Trance a chance on April 21st at KH. First chance I've given it in a looooong time.

In the early part of the night on one of the side screens they had a projector going with that dancer I have in the top right corner of the page... That was so cool to see on a big screen..hah.

Anyways.. I met up with about 3 or 4 of you... The place was way more crowded than I expected so it wouldn't have been easy to find me or anyone in there...

Next time we'll organize it a bit better

Awesome night... good set... even though it had a lot of the same tracks as his innercity 12.30.00 set but maybe 0.01% of the people in attendance there had heard that set so doesn't matter
