Yeah, I agree that everyone has their own taste in music and I do apologize for being so harsh on the opening acts. I was more pissed off at Club Spin for not letting Eddie finish his set, or even take a few pictures.

And I'm not going to lie, I was out on the dance floor dancing to the openers. I guess I should feel a little lucky that I was able to hear something new (even if it wasn't my cup of tea).

Bottom line, I think Club Spin really dropped the ball on the show and I will really think twice before driving across TX to see another show there.

King Britt put on a very good show.. I dunno about everyone else... but King Britt was off the chain. Eddie was good (technically) but I am not into that style of music.. just too hard.. he was pushing 150BPM lol

150? Oh wow. Now that is a little on the hard side. He didn't do that when he was here in Dallas. I can see people point about him if he was getting up in that BPM range. I'm not really sure how the hell you even dance to something that fast.

First, I'd be lying if I claimed I didn't enjoy being able to see what the DJ is doing, or get some fun out of the back and forth between the crowd & the person playing.

Second, I think you'd hate the alternative. Yes, right now, there's that sort of 'dj worship' thing going on, but if you hide him, everyone stops facing one way, stops focusing on what 1 person is doing, and it ceases to be a show, and turns into a regular club night. People turn their attention to each other, and suddenly, that sea of people who couldn't care less what they look like turns into a whole room full of people trying to look cool. I think that THAT would do far more to take away from the music than does a bit more ego-boosting for the dj than you'd prefer. That's one of the reasons I always just go to the front--if I like a track, or the dj does something really well, I can react however the hell I want without wondering what the people next to me are thinking. If it's a packed room with a lot of energy, that extends through the whole club--like when Digweed was on on Friday, & like it was downstairs last night (from what I could tell from a couple short visits)--and everyone has a better time.

There's something to be said for paying more attention to the music, but I don't see anything wrong with having a little fun, too. Regardless of whether it's merited or not, it winds up making the experience better for a lot of people. The music is and always will be the most important part of all of this (at least at shows with DJs who don't, to quote another TXTA, "drop absolute batshit on a crowd"), but that doesn't have to be the only part of it. Everyone has time to sit at home, alone, and listen to music. Enjoy the shows for what they are.


btw, the main club that used to book decent people in St. Louis had the booth way up & elevated, with a tiny little slit for the DJ see the crowd. It's like a treehouse--there's even a door on the bottom of it--and it's completely enclosed. You know what? I hated it. imo, the best set-ups are the ones with the booth not elevated at all, but I know those have a bunch of drawbacks with regards to crowd control.

Personally I like to pay attention to my friends, the music, and getting into my own zone. Quite often I turn my back on the DJ and grab my friends to dance.

You know, the whole 'fixed' thing was so cool when I did it a couple of times. But the way Ryan does it with such style and precision is really taking it to a new level. We need more people like Ryan doing this every other post.

Not to totally cram my foot into this wood chipper of a conversation, but one of Jake's more sterling qualities is his utter lack of humility on this forum.

Lizandro, I would hardly ever agree with Jake on most things, mainly because we have different taste in music and have two totally differently styles (technically and musically). But he's right about the poll rankings. There are great dj's that can't break the 100 and some that shouldn't be there. I am indifferent to Eddie mainly because I do like the tracks he plays but would never beat the hell out of a mixer the way he does.

Now, both of you make nice and admit that I am the greatest you have ever seen

The best artists always die penniless and unappreciated in their own time. And yes I'm still laughing that you think the top 100 means anything about someone's level of skill or anything else for that matter. Now let's have make up sex and call Jonas the master err daddy!
