So there was a "confession" but Iran won't let anyone else talk to them? And the security council just came back with sanctions? Sounds circumspect ...

OMFG WTF! UN has imposed sanctions on Iran? Sanctions for what? Not listening to US?

This is fucking disgusting..

The pities thing is that even Russia is playing some games with the US on Iran. Later this month they stopped building a nuclear power station overthere and refused to supply nuclear fuel saying that Iran hasn't paid for earlier job.

That's disgusting too.

Iran better start enriching faster. Israel is probably going to take advantage of the arms blockade.

Dismantle UN.. whole world is a lapdog of US now.

couldnt agree more, the funny thing is U.S can do whatever the fuck they want to the world and U.N cant do shit about it.

Do they really think Iran is going to stop enriching uranium with these sanctions?if anything it will give them more reasons to continue buliding whatever they are building.

Blair: Sailors were not in Iranian waters

Associated Press

Sunday, March 25, 2007

BERLIN -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair says the 15 British sailors and Royal Marines captured by Iran were not in Iranian waters.

Blair says he wants to resolve the situation "in as easy and diplomatic a way as possible,"

But he warns the Iranian government Britain views the sailors' fate as a "serious situation" and a "fundamental" issue.

Blair's comments came at a news conference in Berlin at celebrations for the 50th birthday of the European Union.

They followed British and European Union demands for Iran to release the 15 naval personnel seized at gunpoint in disputed waters between Iran and Iraq on Friday.

Britain and the United States have said the sailors had just completed a search of a civilian vessel in the Iraqi part of the Shatt al Arab waterway when they were intercepted by the Iranian navy.

Iran, however, says they illegally entered Iranian waters.

liberals blaming neo-cons for drugging Blair's tea in 3, 2, 1....

^^ fair enough, but nobody has commented on what map either side is using as the basis of their respective claims. I'm not taking sides here, but given the long-standing dispute, I think there's more to is than a simple line on a map.

I'm thinking that a prisoner swap with the Iranians that were snatched a few months ago will happen sooner rather than later.

YOU are the problem! not "Neo-cons", not Blair, not Bushitler...YOU and everyone like you!

LOL, he's Indian dude

I'm guessing that even if the British had overstepped their boundaries, which their government is denying, it's probably not nearly as far overstepped as the Iranian incident with the Saudis when they were trying to exhibit their ability to hit major oil producing centers in Jubail earlier this month. Maybe the US ally, the Saudis, should have captured those sailors, particularly since they were so far over their boundaries in comparison to this incident?

http://www.time.com/time/world/arti...=rss-topstories

It's not surprising, it's just Iran trying to flex the little muscles that they have in an attempt to piss of the rest of the world. You'd have thought that they'd have been a little more cautious the day before they're looking at sanctions regarding their nuclear program. This was a good excuse for anyone on the fence to impose the sanctions.

Well that's the problem now isn't it?

It's that issue that started the Iran-Iraq war...

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Mar-25-2007 19:59:

I've heard the Iranians have taken the sailors to Tehran for questioning. Surely it would be more practical and less provocative keeping them on the naval bases on the southern Iranian coast for questioning?

You're right, it is the problem.

Maybe the lack of media attention means that there's actually some legitimacy to the cartographic debate? I, for one, could care less about where the line falls on the map. I do care about seeing the Royal Marines returned home, and likewise the Iranians (and any captured/injured American servicemen/women as well) freed and allowed to return home.

Posted by shaolin_Z on Mar-26-2007 02:02:

Just wow. How fucking naive are you people? Has anyone here read PNAC? And is anyone here familiar with the declassified record of countless false flag ops? And the history of intense media pro-war/pro-state propaganda during warfare? Or do you guys really have such a short memory? Not taking any names here, so don't assume it's necessarily directed at any of you personally, but a good number of post here reflect a complete lack of understanding/ignorance of modern history and warfare. Which is rather disappointing considering a lot of you guys are pretty intelligent people. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm terribly surpirsed by the herd mentality or pathetic display of collective and individual weakness here. Simply disgusting. "In a democracy, people get the kind of goverment they deserve." May the state rule your weak pathetic collective asses.

I've always loved that quote, it's oh so very true. In any case, I'm reserving my opinion on this 'til there is more information available. Obviously both sides have publicity related biases in their responses, so until we have more information I would say it's best to not jump to conclusion. Note to the brits: You could be wrong, you could've been in their waters. Imagine what the states or the UK would do to iranian marines in the hypothetical situation that they found some of them in UK waters, or lets say in French waters close to the UK. Don't go all morally superior so quickly! Your troops could of easily been doing some reckon work for the US or for your country near Iran.

Posted by shaolin_Z on Mar-26-2007 02:25:

Like I said, that's not necessarily personally directed at anyone, especially not you dude . Point taken, but manufacturing an excuse for invading Iran is just too convenient and completely consistent with the bigger PNAC agenda, so I seriously doubt the incident was some sort of accident or coincidence. Plus, if you were Iran, and there's a hostile nations forces near your borders, you proably wouldn't react much differently. Essentialy they're in a no win postion, and I excpect to see nukes flying soon, or atleast some pretty intensive carpet bombing.

EDIT: For more research, for those of you have any interest in doing it ofcourse, look up JINSA, NeoConservatives, PNAC, stated agenda of far right radical Zionists, Wolfowitz and other prowar neocon think tanks who also happen to be Zionists, and their connections, both direct and indirect. Connect the dots for yourselves. It really explains and clarifies alot.

"+1", it's called an "I agree" statement, if you didn't know.

So how, in your opinion, should we act toward Iran? If resolutions mean nothing to you, then I guess war is the only alternative? Since, in your opinion, resolutions mean nothing because the west doesn't follow them? What the hell are they made for then? The world doesn't want another Hitler on its hands.

Lets let all the rogue regimes have nuclear weapons while we're at it...

Its a TV survey. Common man, you should know better about it's validity . Pro-war canadians? Talk about selection bias.

If it was Iranian marines we would be allow them to speak to their consulate, we would contain them on a military base and not take them to London to be paraded, because they don't seem to be going to Tehran to talk to any embassy officials.

This situation could be solved and any misunderstandings corrected, if they allowed the British consulate to talk the naval personal involved.

Dood, I just picked one I found.

It wasn't to further any agenda I just thought it interesting that in this particular instance people would vote like that.

It does say something though besides setting off your anti-neocon meter lol...

CTV btw is probably the least biased of the ones I could have picked if you knew your Canadian media
i.e. it's not the Nanny state, government spoon fed, CBC.

anyone who disagrees with you is bullshit then?

If Iran just wants to make some power, then they shouldn't be so reclusive.

I think we should support the people of Iran and help them reform their government. Admidinijad is facing growing internal opposition.

quote:
Oil -- will probably trade from $62 to $65 this week depending how hot things get with Iran.

Iran & the UN Watch: Iran becomes even less cooperative. If youre splitting the atom for power (electricity) and not POWER (glass parking lots), then Id think you be happy to show off your shiny new facilities. But having the Russians pull out and additional U.N. sanctions piled on is not the way to go if you just want to make kilowatts.

Just to play devils advocate... under the new anti-terror laws here you or I could be detained for is it 30 days?... with no charge. I doubt we'd be able to talk to our consulate we'd only get a lawyer

Just something that popped into my head. But I still recon the Iranians committed a snatch here really.
