My International ECON prof told me to use Wikipedia for everything. Even if they main information is totally accurate, you can use the citations from the article to do the research yourself.

Oh, also, I read an article in the Economist that stated they did a comparaision of so many articles in Wikipedia vs. Britannica, and the difference in error was only slightly different, like 5%.

It was funny, but Britannica was only like 78% accurate, versus Wikipedia which was like 73%.

There's your little wiki knowledge for the day!

ie...give wikipedia the credit it deserves :P

I think it works just fine as a blanket genre - After all, the whole shebang is based out of electronic beginnings, no?

Bahahahaha...my instructors would laugh in my face if I tried to use Wiki for anything.

Fortunately, they provide us with a ton of useful and trustworthy articles in our course packs.

Electronica is just a very bland term, I figured most people on this site would be wise to that. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

And FunkyFoot...yes I asked most this simply because it comes up in conversation.

haha..FunkyFoot!

I find people who are not into the scene refer to it as Electronica. Where as people who are more familiar to the scene refer it to as EDM, but either one is acceptable.

When I tell non-EDM people that I listen to Trance, there like ohh, that Eletronica stuff right?

Posted by Gingerbread Man on Mar-26-2007 02:50:

I think both 'EDM' and electronica are ghey terms and try to avoid using both. Shit, even Firefox spell check doesn't recognize electronica as being a word!

all the profs in my 4th year whose courses involved writing and research refused to accept wiki. as a legitimate source wiki. is hardly reliable (hence why I didn't bother quoting it, but I thought the article looked fairly legitimate to me) since anyone can post anything on it (there was a case when a guy posted some bs about his friend on it which got his friend in trouble)

so yeah, I gave wiki. credit only once, when I was doing some minor stats. research, otherwise nope

I vote you go back to FunkyGroove.

All in favour say Yea.

Posted by kotsy on Mar-26-2007 04:34:

I think "Electronica" and "Electronic Dance Music" are good terms while talking to people who don't know the many styles, just as a term to incorporate the whole scene.

What I absolutely HATE - people that come up to the dj booth and ask you to turn off the "techno", when it's just house. That word is used wrong more than it's used properly. Probably one of my biggest pet peeves. Can you tell? lol
