I have to agree here. He should have tended to the guy on the ground. You can always catch the person who did it, CSI taught me so (jk). Though he couldn't have really done anything for the guy on the ground, if the guy would have died the cop would have been blamed for not at least having tried to do something.

Cops aren't supposed to move a victim until a medic arrives to check them first.

Ok, it makes no sense whatsoever to post those together. You say in one that he should do something, and in the second that he can't do anything.

WTF?

What use is he going to be if he can't do anything to help the guy who has been hit? It will make no difference whether he goes to him immediately, or goes to him 5 minutes later... he isn't allowed to move him!

The driver was probably in shock, so the cop gave instruction to him on what to do.

Cop haters should be blacklisted from ever being allowed to use 911. You're an ingrate and don't deserve the help.

i guess i just assume cops have some sort of first aid training. i know their not medics, but you know...

i think she means to create an emotional attachment with the victim by saying "hey man, are you alright?", thus invoking a sense of hope in the victim because "even in my darkest hour........someone still cared"

what was it that got hit a pig? "it doesnt matter if he goes immidiatly or 5 minutes later".... ok clearly you have nothing intelligent to add to this conversation.

They do have first aid training... but moving an accident victim could potentially kill them, especially if their neck or back is broken. Even medics don't move the guy around, they lift him onto the stretcher.

Bingo. Spinal/neck injury is ABOVE first aid. broken arm, leg etc=first aid.

The cop probably assumed that the guy was most likly knocked out or dead.

Sorry, a cop is there to direct people, and be the level headed one who makes sure that what is supposed to be taken care of, is being taken care of.

The person who hit the guy needs to know what to do, the guy who he pulled over needs to know what to do, he needs to alert people for further assistance, and he needs to maintain a calm demeanor throughout all of this so as not to panic everyone around him.

Freaking out and running to someone you can't do anything for is useless.

Posted by Floorfiller on Mar-27-2007 04:44:

yeah alright that makes sense.

why does he have to freak out while he goes and checks on the victim?

agree to disagree

lol I guess that didn't make sense to post them back to back, relax ffs.

I still think he should have tended the guy a least to see if he could get him anything I guess. Not to move him no, but I am sure he could have stayed by his side, hold his hand or something. ( Yes, this does happen) Fuck the guy who hit him, get some other patrol car on his ass.

I don't hate cops, I defend them whenever someone says that they're pricks or "not fair". I actually have a lot of respect for cops and YES I have gotten in trouble with cops quite a bit so I'm not saying I respect them just because I haven't had a run in with them.

Running over to someone you can't do anything for when you have other things that need to be taken care of, is freaking out and not doing your job properly.

Watch it again. Clearly he was at first shocked. He then immediately calls for paramedics and further help. Then he looked on the street to make sure there weren't any dangers (more cars involved, or coming). He then directs the (probably scare shitless and freaked the fuck out) driver who hit the biker to pull over, which was to remove the road obstruction which could be even more hazardous. Then he calls for backup, and then speaks to the victim.

He took care of the immediate problems first, and then checked on the guy, who HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ANYWAY! Taking care of other things first was the best he could do.

i think you fail to see that even if he cant do anything for him.... its only proper to go and be besides him..

The last thing we need is another Long Cat.

Yes because as the police officer on duty with a lot of responsibility on his back, and tonnes of things for him to take care of, and people who are relying on him to tell them what to do, whilst staying calm, should go and snuggle with the guy on the pavement because it's "proper".

Alright, agree to disagree.

Pearcat >longcat

LOL, I am princess hugs and comfort and love here. I understand the sentiment behind what you are saying, and yes, it is a nice thing to do, but it isn't the most logical thing for the officer to do when he has other things to take care of to avoid more problems.

Posted by Frenchie on Mar-27-2007 05:00:

Usually when called to something like that the cops are in pairs. One stays with the victim until paramedics arrive and one chases them.( if there is a victim )
