i am studying and not working a shitty job, so i have probably less money than you do. i still buy tunes as much as i can afford.
and the state of edm currently is very fucking sad IMO. it's all gone too commercial. pop culture is taking over. compare edm from a bit over ten years ago to the shit we get today and you should notice a difference.

well, I did say that if you play live - you should buy tracks . DJs can do that because they get paid for it. It's just that I don't care where the DJs obtain their music - it doesn't change my opinion of their skills. However, in my post I just made a strong implication that it's perfectly fine for bedroom DJs, especially beginners to use p2p stuff. I'm not a cheap ass, but I do need to save money however I can to pay bills and support my hobbies. If I had the dough, I would gladly buy music, as it is much easier to find what I need on beatport and such, then searching around on P2P networks or torrents.

PS. no need to get defensive and insult me. I simply stated that it's moronic to judge a DJ by the source of his/her tracks.

you called me a moron, i've only returned the favor. i agree that there's really no need for insults but it was you who decided to go down that route.
and you don't buy tunes because you need to pay for your hobbies? well guess what, djing is a hobby too and an expensive one at that. maybe you should think about putting some money in it too.
and where does the limit go? when do you have enough money so you will actually pay for your tunes? that's some double standard right there. like i said, you can try to justify your downloading of p2p any way you want, but it still won't make it any more right. if you are a poor student than you won't have as many tunes as a millionaire dj. that's the way it should be IMO.
i'm not 100% against p2p though, i'm just against people using it for a way to get tunes for free because they're cheap ass ******s who don't want to pay for their music.

this i pretty much totally agree with... anyone with half a brain will know that u have to put A LOT of money if u want to be a DJ into this kind of hobby... the (decent) hardware doesnt come cheap, and the music obviously needs to be sourced from somewhere... it cost the people, who make that music, to get the hard/software to make it in the first place

oh crap, I completely forgot I had this for exactly these threads.

Love the music...

be dedicated... the rest will follow

ull prolly wanna stop DJing after first couple weeks or so... its very hard to pick up but once u get the basics it gets better and definitely more FUN

as for buying tunes....

just start buying tunes now.... and buy tunes legally that u really really like and want to play out.
doesnt matter what u listen to at ur house.... just as long as ur listening

i doubt all the big DJs when they were starting out had enuf money to buy every frickin song they ever listened to ...

seriously... think about it.
