What the hell does this have to do with religion? This is why I never take critics like you seriously, because you're criticizing actions of individuals that are contrary to religion X's teachings. Seriously, there's nothing more ignorant than that. That's kind of like me pissing on the constituion because the Bush Administration is torturing people in Guantanamo. That's about as much sense as most of you make. If you wanted criticize a specific religion, at least have a clue what you're talking about.

Typical... so typical...

How can one learn about this "Islam" when everyone that is supposedly an expert seems to have a condescending attitude to the "clueless" ones??

Maybe its because your religion has conditioned you and every other Muslim to not ask questions. Not to ask "why". Just do what is written.

quote:
I don't have the double digit jock IQ that you do. So I don't prescribe to your dualistic framework of "my team" v.s "their team." Grow up. It's kinda sad having to say that to a 'grown' man well in his thirties.

Oh here we go again, just because I am in my 30's I can't ask questions? I am not allowed to inquire why the Islamic Religion is seen the way it is. You had the prefect opportunity to be a mature Muslim and open some eyes here, but instead, You Talk Down to me and others. You tell me that unless I learn Arabic, I will never fully understand the Koran. Then you sit here and insult my age. Big Deal if I am in my 30's? Is there an age limit on knowledge and wanting to gain more of it.
Plus My team vs Your team?? I listed passages from the Bible just cause more people on here could relates to the passages and see the difference your prophet and the Christian prophet. I could of listed other things , the 4 Noble Truths or how about some Hindu teachings. I am not a Christian, ,,,, I just wanted to ask ,,,,, but that is so typical of You, in the face of adversity, you resort to name calling and attacks on people.
The sure sign of being a big baby...so whats worse, a 30 something year old asking questions about religion or a 20 year old that resorts to personal attacks on someone that just wants a straight answer.. Maybe you are not the expert on Islam as you profess. Maybe as Q5's Avatar states, YOU DON'T KNOW DICK.

The one thing that turned my off about Christianity is the Holier than Thou Attitude.....it looks like that same attitude is also among you Muslims.....
oh well Cest la vie

1) Do you know how to read?

2) Can you argue the topic at hand? A pretty stupid one too I might add.

3) Have you always been a defensive little prick?

4) This follows from question 3. Do always attack someone you're arguing with because you simply don't have a single valid point and you obviously can't refute anything?

5) Why do you bother posting in the PDD?

Apparently you're too stupid to even understand anything I've said so far, as demonstrated by your amazingly defensive, juvenile responses, and your wild imagination. Do have anything intelligent to say?

more insults....???? You know Z, you are a pretty smart... in your own mind, Cause most people that continue to throw insults and knock others down are just in need of an ego boost....
I think the only thing I ever stated to you in this thread is the swipe about Q5's Avatar.....and just reading the majority of your other posts here can arm a person with mountains of shite to throw in your face.
But since I am so old, as you point out, I am above that childish B.S. I am sure that there might be others on here that would agree with me, but they have not the want to have you throw insults at them, or call them stupid or ignorant. You see, Z, I am happy with myself....I have no ego to bruise.... so insults by some naive college student don't bother me.... so insult all you want.... its just making your true self shine on through....
P.S. I will pray for you Z.....

Ok. Apparently you're also very good at contradicting yourself. You project so much of your subconcious attitude it's not even funny, and by now I honestly think you don't realize it.

Posted by shaolin_Z on Apr-24-2007 09:44:

@ Lilith: (nuetral non confrontational tone) I'm not stupid, and you don't know me that well. You're intelligent and intuitive, so you know what I mean.

Laz, have you ever read the (whole) Koran?

Although the goal of the PDD is to debate specific topics, such as religion, I fail to see how exactly we could benefit from this discussion.

First of all, Shaolin has already shown how some of these sentences were taken out of context. You can do it quite easily with the Bible in order to, let's say, show how jealous and immature God is:
quote:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God - Exodus 20:5

quote:
For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: - Exodus 34:14

quote:
(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. - Deuteronomy 6:15

It took me just 30 seconds using a simple search engine. I didn't even bother reading the context. A theologian would probably show how misled I am in a matter of minutes - specially because I'm using a version that has been very poorly translated (the King James Bible), as it focused on aesthetics rather than accuracy.

And this is why I wonder how fruitful this discussion could be - you can't blame the Koran on someone's misreading of the Koran (which most likely is the case with Taliban) simply by quoting random sentences (which were shown to be out of context). And, although I value discussion, I wonder how much this could simply become an empty attack to religion, with little reasoning and a lot of emotion involved. This would be strictly against TA's guidelines, as we don't condone religious intolerance.

So, before this discussion continue, I'd like a very good explanation on how we could benefit from it. Otherwise, this is going to be closed for it seems to spark a flame war based on religious intolerance.

In all fairness though Lira, there are a couple of questions besides LazFX's that have gone unnoticed...(or ignored, not sure)

Posted by Haunted on Apr-24-2007 22:23:

The only real religion of peace is Buddhism.

Christianity and Islam both have defensive elements aimed at spreading the word, the problem is that most Muslim societies haven't progressed to the level where their holy book can be questioned. These books tell us how to live as a society..the problem is that 2000 years later we need a change or else we'll just keep fighting. Islam desperately needs liberalism, progression, but mainly: freedom.

don't knock the religion, knock the state of society and the lack of reform due to conservatism by those in power. maybe GDubs was right, they really do need some democracy over there. I read a personal account of a person living during the Taliban regime, fucking terrible. Bunch of powerhungry animals claiming religious right to rule. No wonder there hasn't been any change.

He started the thread, that's why I emphasised his questions.

LOL @ Laz FX - No disrespect... but I can't help laughing.

To understand Islam, is to search for knowledge, to pursue science, to pursue ART in its purest form, to pursue the internal battle which is a conflict of several ideas.. good or bad... it's about peace and serenity from the inside no matter how fucked the world gets but also caring about the world around you, it's about having limits.. so that you don't fall victim to an idea that might enslave you, mentally or physically... because THAT'S freedom. It's about knowing your place in the universe, this life, and the next.

I can't even begin to explain Islam in all of its magnificence and it's probably why it took more than 100,000 prophets to explain this to humanity.

I might sound like a fanatic but then again... a smoker is a fanatic because he keeps going back to the same cigarette that kills him.

oh sorry. religious fanatics arent killing and raping those of alternative theologies, because of those opposing theologies. my mistake

i also love how you say "contrary to religion X's teachings" when so many people use other parts of religion X's teachings to justify such abhorrent behaviour. what makes shaolin z's definitions or understandings the "real" islam, that is more "correct" than the jihadist mindset perpetuated by other "incorrect" muslims?

if you cant see the negative role religion has to play in these contexts then you're as blind as they are.
