Chicane's music is a mixture of ambient breaks (like Leaving Town, From Blue To Green, Lost You Somewhere, Sunstroke), more pure ambient (like Early, Overture), melodic progressive trance (Halcyon, Saltwater, The Drive Home, Sunstroke (Disco Citizens Remix), Red Skies), dance-pop/house/vocal trance (Don't Give,Up, Strong In Love, Offshore 97, Stoned In Love, Love On The Run), and what I would just say is early morning chill out ala Cafe Del Mar (No Ordinary Morning, Autumn Tactics, Low Sun, Overlap, Already There) and chilled trance/downtempo trance (Offshore, Andromeda, Saltwater (Thrillseekers Remix)).

Carbon Based Lifeforms ... ultima(t)e ( ) number 1 ambient artist for me. Both albums (and their first promo) brilliant! I could say "/thread" now, but there are more.
Solar Fields ... brilliant stuff.
Aes Dana ... brilliant stuff aswell!
Somebody mentioned Healer - Higher Grounds! That one is a gem aswell.

apart from that I also like old Jean Michel Jarre (Oxygene, Equinoxe), Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze

My favourite ambient / chilled tracks are:

Accadia - "Into The Dawn" (Ambient Mix)
Chicane - "Already There"
Chicane - "Autumn Tactics" (Original Mix)
Chicane - "Offshore" (Ambient Mix)
Chicane - "Overture"
Dusted - "Always Remember to Respect & Honour Your Mother" (Ambient Mix)
Energy 52 - "Cafe Del Mar" (Michael Woods remix)
Jakatta - "American Dream"
Mauro Picotto - "Proximus (with Adiemus)" (Ambient Mix)
Noa Assembly - "Into The Fire"
Push - "Strange World" (Tranquillo's Chillout Mix)
Solar Stone - "The Calling" (Chilled Mix)

So quite a few: hard to pick between them as to my overall favourite though even if I listen to them all regularly.

The Push track sounds quite nice when chilled and the version of "The Calling" is quite different from the Inner Peace remix.

Also, wasn't the Ambient mix of Mauro Picotto's "Proximus" track used in a TV advert once here in the UK? I am certain it was but I can't remember what for.

Anyone making it to DEMF this year will be treated with ambient from 12:00-2:00 on two different stages. Listed below are the artist that will be performing and are worth the look up if you are interested in ambient.

Jeff Greinke
Stefan Betke, a.k.a. Pole
Higher Intelligence Agency. H.I.A.
Robert Rich

12:00 to 2:00 am? I'de love to see those guys, esp Robert Rich, but not alone (I don't know many, if any, people into this music (outside of TA). Maybe some into techno, but not ambient.

Nice to see H.I.A. is still out there. If you can, tell Bird to release another bloody album already!

Don't let going alone stop you from going. I would've missed out on so many incredible shows had I opted to stay at home instead of going alone.

I have missed out on a lot. I refuse to go alone, for one I have parents who are a bit protective (until I move out), and two, just don't feel safe. I don't know how many people will be there that late. During the day, perhaps, but not at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. Downtown Detroit is not the place to be that late by yourself, unless your surrounded with a group of people, which isn't likely, unless they are playing indoors at a bar or lounge (it isn't exactly club music).

Hehe, I'm so glad that I don't live in USA when I see this..

Solar Fields is my favorite producer. Beatiful tracks like:
Velvet Reptile, Majestic Feeling, Spiritual Ocean, The Sight is White, Compressed Universe, Elevator Sunshine Girl, Electric Fluid and so on

Yeah Detroit has been one of the 3rd most dangerous cities in America, up there with Los Angeles and Chicago I believe.

I'm amazed you managed to get out of bed this morning. It can be dangerous inside the house, you know. You could have fallen down the stairs and broken your neck.

Whatever, it's pretty obvious that Detroit isn't a safe city, or the place you want to be past 12:00 by yourself. Sure I may sound a bit like i'm a worrier, and I might be, but the way I see it...pretty common sense. Fine if there's a lot of people or just in a club, but I doubt there will be that many people that late to see these artists. People mainly go to dance it seems like. Only those really into electronic music, the finer side of it, will truly appreciate these artists. I don't mind driving down there alone, it's the fact I wouldn't know anyone and think it's better going to these events with people you know.

Sorry about not responding sooner. They will be playing from Noon - 2:00 p.m. Pretty much opening up the festival every day. Sorry about the confusion about times. Detroit may not be the safest city in the world but with a little commen sense and awareness you will be fine. That weekend is one of the safest to go because of the crowds and added police presence. Us Detroit cats are out and about every singe weekend and most of us are still in tact. LOL.

I appreciate:

Molenstraat 4, CG, Page, Rachel's Dance (Fucking choon) alot!

Oh then that's better. The afternoon is a much better time to be in Detroit.

Four pages of discussion about ambient and no mention of The Orb?

Posted by Rainborn on May-08-2007 09:32:

Robert Rich - Somnium

And yeah, The Orb are cool. Blue Room, A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre of the Ultraworld, The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld, Perpetual Dawn, Fluffy Little Clouds, Peel Sessions.

There is some truth to this. New songs are continuely blurring genres and sub-genres, although most seem to fit snugly into one category or another.
