One forum I saw used an image verification that made you solve a simple math problem (embedded in the image) and type the answer into the text box. I doubt any spam bots cracked that one.

This would be a good one. If a user can't solve 2+2 then we don't want them here.

the image verification has been able to be defeated but the math equation one seems to be one that would be MUCH MUCH better than just transposing numbers and letters.

Well then - should we link this thread to the Suggestion forum or start a new one there?

It'd be nice to hear back on some of these ideas just so those of us who really don't understand how they work can know whether or not they're even feasible.

Make a thread and list off what we've suggested/pondered in this thread.

Edit: Or do it Myra's way.

Yeah, that's cool - but am I still able to change the title?

If we're going to move it, it might as well be labeled as ideas for how to deal with the situation, instead of it's current "c0r-ey" title

Basically I don't want to give the impression that we're bitching for the sake of bitching now that most of the spam has been removed and the issue isn't exactly current anymore.

/internet politician.

Edit: NM, looks like Swamper is browsing the c0r - might as well just leave it for him to see here.

manual registration of a spam bot would work against image embedded stuff; there's no such thing as foolproof.

true but it would keep the automated registrations from happening.

My favorite nightclub's forums have been infested for the last couple of months.

Have a look: http://www.theguvernment.com/forum/list.php?f=2
