i just asked my dad (hes a pharmacist) and i was wrong. it is sudafed (pseudoephedrine hydrochloride). the reason why it is considered speed is because the human body changes the pseudoephedrine in to ephedrine.

so basically its trash, if you want the real goods you know where to getem

what? it's be nice if the body could magically change one enantiomer to another, but that doesn't happen (if it did we'd all be getting blitzed on levomethorphan!). the main metabolite of psuedoephedrine is nor-pseudoephedrine, which is desmethylated at the amine. because of the beta hydroxy position and the stereoisomer pseudoephedrine both doesn't pass the blood brain barrier and has a low affinity for the dopamine and norepinephrine transporter, making the general effects on the cns mild. i used to take craploads (into the 100s of mg) and mostly got mild effects.

d-ephedrine is more effective but again struggles with the BBB and thus kinda sucks. the 'new' party pills that are out now are all piperazines, mostly a combination of BZP and TFMPP, which I don't trust as there's been barely anything in the way of studies for them, especially in combination. piperazines are generally a functional group you'd be best off not ingesting because your liver struggles with them!

anyway if you really want piperazines this place is supposed to be reputable and at least they list their contents:

Certain makes of Sudafed have high levels of psuedoephedrine, which is why drug stores are starting to keep them behind the counter. This is because they can very easily be used in the production of a certain drug. But, as far as I know your body can't change it from psuedoephedrine to ephedrine, it's done chemically in the production of this drug.

I'm using "space trips" party pills ... they are legal and very pleasant too...

The one time I took a funk pill, I was mashed And wide awake for two days...

Even certain sleep helpers had no effect the next day...

Extremely intense to the point of zero enjoyment and probably won't take them again...

A few years ago I was debating whether to go out or not cuz I had a serious cold...anyways, I decided to take a Sudafed decongestant that consisted of 120 mg of pseudoephedrine and ended up being completely wired at the party I went to, for hours...far from 'mild effects' for me....but then again perhaps people have different tolerences for these chemicals.

Anyways, I believe it's being phased out as an over-the-counter drug and replaced by phenylephrine.

I find it kind of odd that many of the 'legal' party-pills are more dangerous than their illegal counterparts.

Stuff like MDMA has quite a bit of medical research/testing behind it, and when of pharmaceutical quality - has a fairly low toxicity, the risks/dangers are known - and not very dangerous.

Then, you get these 'legal' drugs, that don't have much research backing them up, and can have greater side effects and risks carried with them, sort of makes you go 'hrmmm.'

I Recently watched a Documentary on "Legal" highs ... pretty much came to that conclusiona and how that industry works

I used to take Sudafed before big games when I was pitching in competitive baseball. A lot of people used to take it before sports, especially hockey players. Quickens reflexes and and makes you very jumpy. My fastball easily went up by 5-10mph.

But the party was over when Sudafed changed formulation like you said. They did it because of stove-top meth labs were buying them up in quantities.
