How the hell can there be such a strong earthquake in England? It's in the middle of the Eurasian plate... not even Google knows!!!

fault lines occur away from plate boundaries.

Like I said, theres a fault not far form my house, and we're away from the plate boundary. Back in the 50's or 60's we had a quake of about 5-5.5 with the epicentre at that fault. It is possible for a quake like that from a fault line.
