charles owns the property and complex. there's no way hes gonna sell it after dumping millions of dollars into it. maybe after another 10 years when the land value will almost be priceless he will sell. its business baby.

nice to know they were all informed of the situation

all im saying is that the cityhall mumbo jumbo was a few days ago and people are whaling 'they wouldnt have done renovations' , well im saying is that it was just endorsed a few days ago, not before the renovations took place.. shrug

From what I know, Charles owns the land and doesn't lease it. Meaning it's completely up to him whether he wants to sell or not. Secondly, there have been several articles like the one posted here, going back to a few months ago before renos took place.

yes but cities have certain legislation in place so they can yank certain property from certain areas depending where,.. they do it all the time in ottawa, if its for a city of ottawa purpose, the land is kinda 'taken' but the owner give full value for it, just not a choice..

Posted by robbiej on May-04-2007 00:50:

i think they can do that when they rezone also? im not too sure.. but the real problem will not be having to sell the land or anything, probably the noise ? im nto sure where they are talking about building these new places with regards to guvt

edit: hehe posted at the same time about rezoning ;]

Even if Charles owns the land and the building, if the land has been rezoned for a different use then he has no say.

The argument I'd make to save Guv is that it's a cultural institution to the city of Toronto. Granted most of us like to go there and "party", but the complex itself serves a function for the city. Koolhaus regularly hosts concerts that attract people from all over the region while Guv attracts people from all over the world with it's large events like Labour of Love and Freedom. Guvernment makes Toronto unique. Not to mention the fact that Guv holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of people.

Guvernment serves a purpose. If the biggest complaint is sound then soundproof the fucking place. If Skybar makes too much noise then maybe we'll have to do without Skybar if that means we get to keep the club.

Just build the condos already.

Posted by Cosmic Fur on May-04-2007 15:48:

They should build condos ON TOP of Guv. Then all the partiers would just have to go down to the lobby from their apartment to get their sketch on.

should this project be given the go ahead, it's going to take probably close to 10 years before it's done. we're talking years of planning and then years of construction.

some people need to stop being so dumb.

If they build the condos high enough, no one on the ground will be able to hear music from the skybar.
