being a christian is not actually just believing in god or believing jesus it is actually following the bible, so it drops down to .00001% of real christians around the world.

oh and if you read my question then you wouldnt have had that answer

mezzir, i hope he comes back tomorrow too. you might see the spectacle in the collegian.

as for the being a christian, someone argued that they were christian but they still were involved in the things that the speakers were against. does this not make them a true christian?

i mean i really wish i could have heard the answer from one of the speakers. if you try to follow the word of the Lord, but still partake in things like pre-marital sex or lying, then what exactly does that mean?

Posted by RandomGirl on May-03-2007 23:28:

What a bunch of hypocritical dingle berries.

Hmmm, let's see...

Matt 7:2-5

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye ? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

There is no one in the entire world who has not sinned in the eyes of "God"... if this is the case, NO ONE should be judging anyone else in a religious context, unless they are willing to judge themself under the exact same light.

People who will say "you are a sinner" but will deny, or not admit that they too are a sinner, are idiots.

And what is the point of telling people they are sinners? We know we are. The story of Jesus dying for our sins, which pretty much everyone has at least a vague understanding of, explains that God knew that people were sinners, and that it was inevitable.

If you are going to preach about something, preach about how God will FORGIVE your sins if you try to redeem yourself. You know... the GOOD word!

Stupid bass ackwards religious zealots.

ha yeah i'll def see it in collegian, my dad knows all the people who run it (he works at the student union, deals with RSOs)
and i got class in machmer tomorrow at 11:15, i'ma try to go a few minutes early just in case

ha and also, if he's there, he better not catch me in a bad mood, cause i swear any claims he makes, i can tear them to shreds on a purely logical basis, no anti-god rhetoric involved

Posted by RandomGirl on May-03-2007 23:33:

You know what would make my day...

a fat religious guy telling me that I am a sinner.

I would look at him and say, "you are a true hypocrite in every form of the word, and I hope that your God punishes you in the way that you believe he will for being, not only a sinner by your gluttoness ways, but being an idiot too."

Wow, I am anti-people today.

Posted by Frenchie on May-03-2007 23:34:

today?? lol

I'd love to see this happen with J. Pie there. Her hate for fat people and your hate for... people in general would make for one hell of n argument.

On a good day I love everyone and am huggy etc. etc. but when people become self-righteous morons, it really rubs me the wrong way.

it sucks there's no god. i'd like an afterlife where i could tell these types of people how fucking stupid they were.

What some anti-theists will never get is that they're just the other side of the coin... worsened by the fact that they actually consider themselves to be more open-minded.

Edit: oh, and I've experienced something "similar" when a woman started yelling at a professor because he mentioned Darwin. The rest of the class rofl'ed, mostly

Posted by Abercrombie on May-04-2007 01:52:

enough of the fat comments already

come on lira, you know better than that. what you dont see is anti-theists organising and trying to enforce their views in politics. big big difference imo.

"open-minded" is a catchcry for people that think not possessing an informed opinion is somehow a virtue. do you think anybody that has made their mind up about something is automatically "close-minded"? coz thats just silly.

Posted by SuspicionVandit on May-04-2007 02:34:

the christian loons who make it their initiative to aggressively convert the world to their religion to SAVE YOU FROM THE GATES OF HELL are stupid fucks.

as well as the people who aggressively criticize ALL religious people for being CLOSED MINDED SCIENCE PWNS YOUR FACE.

I think religion is a personal choice and should be kept that way. Yeah, there are some loons who will be fags about it (WBC), but a lot of people benefit immensely from it (and i'm not talking about $). Hope is something a lot of people in this world need, and Xbox360 can only do so much for the next generation.

Posted by wotyzoid on May-04-2007 02:44:

yeh guys religion should not be discussed like this as it is something very personal and insulting someone because of their beliefs makes you a douche.

why should one's spiritual beliefs be sacrosanct, when all other beliefs are open to criticism? ie should members of the KKK not be insulted for their beliefs?

Posted by Sunsnail on May-04-2007 03:04:

Intolerant people of any kind bug the shit out of me. I dont care what religion you practice

organizations like the KKK should be criticized as much as the religious groups of people who push a campaign full of aggressiveness and indimidation. The religious folk who sit in their chair reading their bible and going to church on sunday, then go to work, raise their family and make do for themselves, why criticize them and say YOU'RE STUPID?

There's a difference between the (the majority) of religious people who attend masses and read scriptures and the loons who blow up abortion clinics, call for the eradication of certain people and do the acts of the West Burrough (sp?) Church.

every group/organization has loons in it. accept it

as long as they dont harm anyone i dont think it should be of anyones's business to be honest. You could think what you think but its your actions that count. keeping someone from believing something is wrong imo.

Can't be bothered reading the whole thread but didn't Jesus die for our sins?

Therefore...I don't see where the problem is

I fail to imagine what exactly an anti-theist organisation would try to impose in politics — there's a clear separation of the State and the Church already, isn't there? As a matter of fact, that wasn't part of my point at all, as I'm talking about the individual level.

The intolerance shown by some anti-theist individuals, such as those Andrea mentioned, is not much different in quality from those of hardcore believers... they're completely unable of sustaining their point of view in a debate: ripping a bible up is an act of despair (and/or a provocation), rather than a good argument. How is that different from a preacher yelling and resorting to circular reasoning?

No, mate, that's called being aware of human cognitive fallibility. Do you really think you can reach absolute knowledge on anything? coz thats intellectual dishonesty
