the dub of tell me is actually pretty good, i have been dropping it for a couple of weeks now.


also a dj set by him now a days is actually alot of fun, dont miss him if you ever get the chance to see him, its well worth it

Sandstorm will always be one of my favorite tracks, mainly for the simple fact that it is single handedly got me into trance. Granted I listened to trance prior to this, but no where near as much as after I heard Sandstorm.

this complexity thing is garbage and i've said it before. Every good producer knows that making a song too complex full of too much elements its just a cover up for a lack of creativity. Thast why i dont like it when people say just because a tune is catchit it is bad. just my opinion.

I agree. "Sandstorm" was popular partially because it was so simple and energetic, which is the same reason why other tracks like "9 PM (Till I Come)" by ATB, "Castles In The Sky" by Ian van Dahl, and "Heaven" by DJ Sammy were so popular. Sure they are pop garbage, but what makes them that way..is their simplicity. Now for Darude's sake, I wouldn't put him in with those other artists. If you hear the stuff on his second CD, you'll see that he progressed and did indeed have more depth. Maybe it wasn't on the same level of the progressive house and trance that I typically enjoy (or some of the finer epic stuff like Micro de Govia) but Darude is more than "Sandstorm", he just needs to get his third album released...

I think he's a talented artist who got a slightly bad rap because "Sandstorm" became so dominant all over the world, especially in America. It was marketed like hell, played all over by many DJs, even at school dances. Lots of people knew about it. But how often does that happen to a trance-dance tune? Not a whole lot, so I give it to him for partially bringing a track like that into the mainstream. Unfortunitely, it's one of the few "trance" or "techno" tracks some people know. Funny thing is, I would try to introduce people who liked "Sandstorm" to other (and some I considered "better") trance/dance tracks, but they were still so into that track. Maybe because the stuff I was introducing had more depth to it or was too "progressive"...not sure.

I agree, some of the best music I've heard was pretty simple, but I think it's also a prerequisite for a track to be commercially successful. In my lifetime I've personally never heard a popular track that was remotely complex.

Also, a track can sound simple and still have alot of depth - this isn't the case here by a long shot.

Darude - Feel The Beat (JS16 Dark Mix)

He's got a residency at Club Element in Seattle. I heard a radio set by him and was pleasantly surprised, even though one of his CDRs skipped for a full 5 minutes. I've never gotten a chance to hear him live but wouldn't mind it.

Seems like he's steered clear of the whole minimal craze so far which I think is good for keeping a balanced electronic scene.

Darude is amazing.

My friend keeps saying that Darude is really good live. He was playing really dark tribal-House stuff when he came by Charlotte, and he teased the audience during the whole show with snippets of "Sandstorm". When "Sandstorm" was actually dropped the room went nuts...

As for his productions, "Rush" is a decent album.

Yeah if you get a chance to see him live, don't pass up the opportunity. He really rocks the floor. And some of the mash ups he does are amazing.
