When people ask me about computers, I prefer to just act like an idiot and say "I dunno, maybe.."
IT makes you hateful/bitter if you let it.
It goes the same with being a mechanic.
At least u can think about the posative side of this, youve probably forgotten more about computers than some people will ever know.
Reason #11: It won't get you laid.

Seriously?
I can't walk down the hallway on any floor in my building without SOMEONE asking me SOMETHING.
And it's simply a perquisite when it comes to visiting family.
More like I come prepared to do some maintenance with an army of small little apps on a USB drive everywhere I go...
If I get paid, then cool.
Happily most people know that unless I'm free and/or offer, I'm busy with my wife and baby

I seriously don't know where to start....I have been working in the IT industry for 4 years...it has tought me nothin but how people really are, that you are only needed, not wanted. They don't want to talk to you about anything else, and when you are seen doing it others will see you as not working, I happen to like talking to some of my users thank you so fuck off.
I have even gone as far to no longer assist family members with PC issues or even people that know them....even when I was at the company xmas party some were even talkin shop with me, one girl who is so pretty I told her, this is not the time or place, unless you wanna continue the party in one of the rooms in this hotel don't talk to me about work. Disgusting profession that we need to take major advantage of, because most people simply do not appriciate us therefore we can't grow.
Today i charged someone 50 bucks because he couldnt connect to internet on his laptop. It was $3000 toshiba laptop. After clicking here and there for 10min, I turned the little switch on front of the loptop and started working. well always forgetting that you need to think simple. Anyways, thats what you pay for ignorance to technology.
Oz.
I personally think the author of this article is a whinner. I'm a technician and yes it can be frustrating at times, but hey, being the "computer guy" is better than being the "garbage man".

Garbagemen get paid a lot more than IT people so personally, if I could stand to actually do the work, I don't think I'd really care about the reputation.
And garbagemen don't get asked to do shit, ever, because they're unionized and incapable of doing anything other than refusing to pick up garbage because the ratio of garbage to recycling and compost was too high and/or the container was too large and/or the individual bags weren't arranged in a perfectly symmetrical pattern.

...my point is that there are PLENTY of jobs that are much worse than being in IT, regardless of these 10 reasons...
yea there are worse professions...like working at Radioshack...I mean they make it like you have to be a science professor to work there, and they pay nothing, plus the only thing that is a sure sell is batteries.
