Come on people.......
Don't let this thread die.....where are those usefull tips?!
Ok, guys.
here my 2cents
i've posted this into another thread already. i started making some patches with absynth. here is my try to get that typical Svenson&Gielen sound. The melody is taken from their remix of 'Minimalistix - Close Cover'.
I used two instances of Absynth and three 3xOSC inside fruityloops, put some reverb, flanger and phaser on these synth and...gotcha!
http://rsr.host.sk/preview/closecover.mp3
Cyrus, really REALLY awesome work!!! WOW!! And U did that with Fruity?? Any changes to get flp of that?
Ok, it's me again.
Since there were some requests of that flp file, i decided to put it to my webspace.
here is the download.
you can open the zip-file in fruityloops. i can't tell if absynth saves the last used patch, so i put the bank with that patch inside the zip file. if you can't hear anything or got other problems with the sound, try to load that patch-bank. then it should work.
oh, i forgot to warn you. this file is a cpu-killer. i own an athlon xp 1700+ with a sb1024 pci-card, and fruity's cpu-monitor is about 60%-70%!!!
the funny thing is, that it is NOT absynth that punches this value so high. with all channels muted but the absynth's one it's about 25% (it even doesn't matter if there are 1 or 2 instances of it, i think). so the problem must be the 3xOSC.
if you can make those synth sound better, or can fix the problem with that high CPU-value, please send me a copy of your work.
Where are your patches, banks, etc??? Show us what you got...

I made some changes, heres my version of the close cover melody:
Save As Target!
It might sound a bit dry cuz I had no reverb on it. I tried to make it as good as possible by using lots of Eq and my Jp samples.
I got a new sample up at http://www.djchrono-samples.tk
check it out, its a two part combo from the supernova.
Cool sample man!
I have alittle question...
Okey , u have a hardware synth and u have made this melody u would like to record.
How do u do when ur recording it.
I mean it must be pretty hard to play it live. strings and thing like that I can record with out any problem but how tha hell do u record a Fast lead and make it fit the track?
Do u record it live or do u make the melody in midi format and then let the synth play the melody , so u can record it?
I have no idea... So it would be great if someone could answer my question.
Cheers!

what you do is set the hardware synth up on a midi track in your sequencer.. you would draw in the notes, just as you would for any softsynth.. and when you play it back, it sends the note info out to the synth, triggering the sound. To record this sound, you simply set up an audio track under your midi track.. you arm the blank audio track to record, and u solo the midi track with the synth on it, that you want to record. then you just press the play button, the synth plays back the sequenced notes, and the audio track records it in real time. Then you have the acual audio data as a sample in your timeline.

Thanks alot for the help Chrono!
TranceVision:
I just made it in Fruity.
I have never worked with hardware synth so thats why I asked. Think I`m gonna by a real synth soon.

You want PHAT sounds? Download MDA JX10 synth. It was originally a DXi plugin but I think a VST version has been made now. I use the DXi version ooooooh! It's sexy! Really driving analogue presets, x3 oscillators, full enveloping and loads of other shit. If you type in JX 10 synth on google you get loads of download sites. Sorry I can't remember any off hand.
Also check out the MDA DX10, really good for melodies, chicane, tiesto sort of sounds.
I found both with www.google.de ! And the best thing is: FREEWARE.
I will check it out now...
Trancevision
Transvision...
Could you give me/us the url?
I'm using Google right now, but it finds so many websites about those synths that I can't find a good one
Thanx
http://www.thepluginlist.com/ Go to that site... Select what kind of plugins U are after, do U hope to find freeware or the name of plugin... Veru nice site
please give some Feedback
This thread is running a long time now. Did the hints and inspirations help you in any way to get a fuller sounding, phat sounds
or a damaged speaker ? Or did you know most of the hints already ?
Tell me what you think and how you succeeded in getting the phat sounds out of software...
Trancevision
well.. it helped a bit.. but i`m still learning how 2 program synths properly.. i think its just a matter of time..
i wish ya`ll luck
Well..This has been a helpfull threat to me! I have learned some new and important tips
must not let good threads die out, here is one more thing:
heres how to make an arpeggiator in reason, a pritty good one at that. You used a matrix thingy. from the back of the matrix conect "note CV" to your synth at "OSC pitch". flip the matrix around and draw notes at c1 c2 c3 or whereever, set steps to "3", make sure you have "keys" and "pattern selected". draw notes for your synth in the main sequencer. press play. if it is very faint rase "filter env sustain" or flip the synth over and raise "OSC pitch".
you now have an arpeggiator in reason.
if you dont understand i can email you the file.

heres something that i winged out a couple nights ago, the "dense" clap.. you know, the one thats reverbed really heavy but has a really quick envelope ON the reverb, keeping it from decaying normally?
here's how it would go in fruity
1.load up your fave clap sample, put it on a free FX channel
first throw a fruity EQ on it as you normally would (i hope?)
2. put some sort of reverb, timeworks reverbX, fruity, it doesnt matter... on it,underneath the EQ. make it a really heavy reverb, loud (50% rev, 100% dry sound) 100 diffusion, no low cut, no high cut, no dampening.
3. put a fruity mute on it..
4. Make your clap pattern as you normally do.
5. right click on the fruity mute on/off knob, and automate it (IN THE SAME PATTERN AS YOUR CLAPS), so it mutes right after each clap
6. put a slight reverb on the whole ball of wax.
if everything went according to plan you should have a really dense clap that suddenly stops, and has been used in a lot of tracks.
experimenting is fun. You can also use the mute + square LFO automation to make some funky gating noises. Hope this tip helps add to the knowledge base here.
cheers
