anyways, i catch shows like nancy grace and paula zahn from time to time when i have nothing to do.

and i didn't catch paula zahn last night, because i was crying my eyes out over the spurs.

if you were the only one else in the parking lot he'd probably make sure you didn't call the cops by beating you up and taking your phone.

Posted by Ang ' ela_ie on May-15-2007 15:24:

He'd have to catch me first.

Look at the situation. There were four people there, men, and this guy didnt have a gun. Even if you didnt know that he didnt have a gun, why beat someone to death with your bare hands if you could just shoot them?

These guys should have done something, and they didnt. They ignored that it was happening. This non-reaction is why people think they can get away with muggings and carjackings in broad daylight. If our society would show a little more "self-policing," this might not happen as often.

ang: have you ever been in a situation similar to this? there have been many many studies on this and in general people just dont do shit because they are emotionally in shock or just dont care. more often than not its the shock. you have to experience it at least once to be able to do something otherwise your paralyzed.

or am i just a big pussy? i remember my dad saying "if ur gonna get robbed, give them anything they want, its just material possesions that can be replaced"

now about the beating up of the old man, ya horrible, but i still dont think i would do anything.

if you hurt the criminal, he can sue you.
if you hurt the victim while trying to protect him, he can sue you.
it's better just to phone the police and wait until the guy is about to die (during the attack), cus if you JUST watch the guy and he DOES die, you'll probably get sued by the family for JUST calling the police instead of running over the bad guy with your car.

Posted by Project-K on May-15-2007 15:31:

Why take the risk? Better be a pussy and be alive than being a dead idiot. I would've called the cops for sure, but kept my distance. Would love to help the old fellow but I watch out for number one first.

This is exactly the kind of "me first" thinking I was talking about. People are such selfish fucks.

oh my god, that's so weird. i don't know who paula zhan is so i wasn't clicking on this thread, but i dunno, something made me click it.

i dont watch the news down here because south florida news is a joke, and i just dont really watch too much TV anyway...but i happened to catch inside edition last night and saw that video and i honestly wanted to puke. i was so furious!

i hope that little fucking piece of shit gets ass raped in jail. don't they have him in custody?

and yea, as far as no one doing anything...that pissed me off even more. what in god's name is wrong with people these days. i mean, get in your car and try to run him over or SOMETHING! i mean, i guess they were scared and seeing some little black thug beating the shit out of an old man would make them think he probably had a gun, and so they just didn't want to get involved, but it just doesn't seem right to me. you gotta do something and help. i mean, in my eyes you do, but i guess not everyone else's. people digust me.

jamie: stop for a second and think. when you hear of those people that see someone murdered right in front of their eyes what do they say? they were paralyzed. they couldnt move. they couldnt do anything....this is the EXACT thing that happens with most violent crimes and witnesses!

too many people are quick to jump and say i would do this, i would do that, i would (insert action here)...but in all actuality you wouldnt do anything either the first or even second time you saw something like this or worse happen!

like gehzumteufel is saying, the normal reaction would be to go into shock. that means i don't need to "know" you, you are still bound to rules of human behavior no matter how special you think you are.

well you havent eluded to whether you have or havent.

well i bitched at some lady for talking to her kid like a piece of shit one time.

obviously that's not the same thing lol but i'm certainly the type to do something about shit that i dont find to be right.

but yea, u have a point. maybe i would freeze, maybe i wouldn't...but i think my natural reaction would have been to do something.

the first thing that came to my mind when i was watching that video was that i would have told someone near by to get in their car and be ready to run that ****** over after i taunted him to come after me and leave the area where the old man was pinned down.

Posted by Silky Johnson on May-15-2007 16:03:

Why would I elude to it? It's irrelevant to the point I was making, which was that people are generally selfish fucks, and their first reaction is to consider how they will benefit/lose from a situation, instead of simply having the desire to help their fellow man.

Posted by metalgearsolid on May-15-2007 16:04:

I've been in a situation where "I" should have stepped in but didn't b/c I didn't care. Anyways, I later find out on the news that the couple went back home and the husband killed his wife. But oh well that is life.

Not really, I live in a sensible land

There was this one time, actually, when an old man saw a rapist attacking a girl, grabbed a metal bar that was laying somewhere on the ground and hit the rapist so hard the rapist went into a deep coma.

The guy wasn't convicted.

Well, if youre asking me specifically, a girl got carjacked at 530 in the morning in front of my apartment two weeks ago. She was delivering the paper. The guy pulled a gun on her.

Not necessarily the same kind of situation, obviously.

ive seen some gruesome things after the fact and it doesnt bother me, but i have yet to see those things happen right in front of my eyes. in all honesty i hope i never do but if i did i hope that i would have the selflessness to try to stop something.
