Neon Genesis Evangelion is much more than 'robots'... it explores life/death/renewal, the relationship between a son/father with the son trying to earn his father's approval (ala star wars), the oedipus complex, and other complex psychosis, religion, philosophy... all rolled into one!

I stand properly corrected.

All that you say is true, and why I love the series so much. My only disappointment was the author's attempt to complete the movie in an apocolyptic story arc involving some sort of mash of gaia theory (a la Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). It went a little too high level/abstract to be of any use to me at that point. The main series/story arc, however, is among the best.

...and it has cool robots.

the series definitely had many flaws. i agree with you that the apocalyptic ending was a bit abstract and bizarre. also the middle episodes were a bit light and fruity for my tastes. but as a whole this series is a work of art!

and yes.. cool robots!

It's not actually Anime. It's done sort of in that style, but it's American. Much better than the movie, which was a letdown for me. My expectations were so high. Carrie-Ann Moss should have played the part.

i imagine it would have been.

well, ill try to check it out.

Heh. I just realized that the setting for Freelancer (some space sim opera type game from Microsoft few years ago) is loosely based upon Cowboy Bebop worlds.

/end geek talk

Bleach, Naruto, and Initial D as far as series go, speaking of which new bleach aired tonight in Japan so i'll get to see it tomorrow
Tried to watch the final fantasy unlimited series as I'm a HUUUUUUGE fan of the game series but couldn't really get into it..

Ghost in the shell was AMAZING, still looking to see princess mononoke and ninja scroll

My roommates always thought i was wierd for watching anime but i really don't care... the storylines are usually pretty amazing!

and i can't stand dubs... not sure why but i'm all about subtitles

Dude, dubs suck more ass and penguins.

Subtitles is the ONLY way to go. In ANY kind of movie.

Dubbing is just brutal IMO.

Plus their Japanese voices are funny. Especially when they get angry.

death note is fuckin' awesome... go watch it. basically about a normal kid who finds a book (and a death god that only he can see and talk to), and he can write down a person's name in it and how they are going to die, and it happens. he tries to shape the world in his own vision, and avoid being caught, it gets more interesting as he becomes more corrupt.
