if you read some of the comments there. you see that there are a lot of racists posting shit there. But it goes to show you that the internet is filled with way too many racists who say shit but wouldn't say it in real life.

Simply that you're one of the last persons I would think were a football fan.

Ok, after watching the video this is what I have to say:

There is definitely a problem with racism in games in a good part of Europe. And I don't doubt things are much better in this respect in the US. However, you have to put some things into perspective. First, organized supporters associations that go into the stadiums to chant are in many cases the absolute scum of society - particularly the kinds seen in this video. They're fanatic, aggressive, sometimes involved with drug smuggling. They're in some way the equivalent of rednecks in America, and do not represent society in a whole.

Second, the video is horribly sensationalist, although it is true Europe is somewhat in denial regarding some of these things. The way they criticise the FIFA for not extending the 3-point penalty to racism displayed by fans is insane. So, if a single neanderthal gets into the stadium and shouts a couple racial slurs, they should stop everything and kick his country out of the competition? We're talking 50000 people crowds here, and that is giving far too much power to the potential idiocy of every single individual, even if every single one of them are expected to behave in a much more civilized way.

I also believe the US have a bit of an extreme view on racism due to their long history of how black people faced discrimination and finally managed to be treated like the human beings they are. This has made the US too obsessed with political correctness in my opinion, which makes stuff like harmless jokes about a race being shocking and offending to some americans. I'm not saying this as an excuse, there is stuff going on in european football that is simply unacceptable and far from a joke. Europe is by contrast to America a bit too lenient on racism. It's just that I think some of you see racism insults as an extreme evil, on the same level of murder and rape. I don't see it that way. It's psychological pressure that in some cases can indeed ruin lives, but it's only as bad as any other kind of unfair discriminatory attitudes - some of which apparently are considered normal over there in the US (the homosexuals for example).
