I can not believe I almost missed out on this...

My God, the way you just put it together, no words to describe how great this mix is.

I'm taking a listen to this right now, about halfway through... excellent mix, it's deep and hypnotizing, techy without becoming boring. Kudos!

Posted by nefardec on Jul-09-2007 21:40:

cool man, thanks for listening

as the title suggests, that's just what i had in mind!

Posted by Allied Nations on Jul-09-2007 21:57:

been hella busy l;ately but dont think i havent been meaning to check this out.. last set i heard from you was really cool- i think it was the one with the yellow ish cover...

downing

Posted by DangerMuse on Jul-09-2007 22:47:

This tracklisting is right up my alley. Shlomi Aber, Funk D'Void D'Julz and Ame... yeah, defintately giving this one a listen!

Posted by DangerMuse on Jul-09-2007 23:51:

Ahh...Diabla's flowing over me now, giving me goosebumps! I have fond memories of this track, and its a perfect way to close the set.

Thanks for sharing

Posted by iamtehsuck on Jul-11-2007 13:48:

halfway through it, nothing but quality so far

Posted by Allied Nations on Jul-12-2007 06:09:

isnt cropduster shlomi aber?

that tune has been beaten to death over here in mtl... great track, just heard it a zillion times

review coming soon, when i have time

Posted by nefardec on Jul-12-2007 13:45:

Yes, Bao = Shlomi Aber

it's probably been beaten to death everywhere, but I like it and it just fit the moment. Plus I used it as a tool for diabla, so however many times it's been played it didn't really matter to me.

you dont need to justify anything to me

so far im like half feeling this mix, i like some parts and dont like others... mixing is good though

song of the mixes i find a bit boring though, like i hear both tunes but i dunno... i still need to take some time with this one... always do with deeper stuff

Posted by nefardec on Jul-12-2007 14:28:

maybe i was justifying it to myself

Posted by Yohan on Jul-13-2007 22:14:

I like afterhours prog and this is good.

Am going to have to give a few more listens but at first round, sounded well nicely done

Posted by bubbleguuum on Jul-14-2007 19:53:

Finally listened to this mix yesterday

Good effort, but while still enjoyable it did not much for me, and I'm also into deeper sounds whether it's house or techno. Maybe because most tracks are tech-housey and a bit predictable, even if some individual tracks are well done. Mixing is solid but there was no surprise.
Keep in mind i'm very picky with what I consider interesting music these days.
In the end I may sound harsher than I am: I enjoyed parts of it but I was not blown away like I was by a few other mixes I heard recently (not on TA). And I know how much effort it is to make such a mix (track selection, training, etc..)

Posted by Yohan on Jul-14-2007 21:14:

My only nitpick is that the transition between more happy tunes and the dark creepy tunes seems to contrast too much. What I mean is the transition between two types of prog doesn't seem to flow well. Maybe a tune that is some what happy and somewhat dark as in transition tune might have made the set flow better

Posted by nefardec on Jul-15-2007 01:26:

You're probably talking about when I mixed into working? that's the only 'happy' track I can think of. Not sure what you mean by prog though?

@bubblegum - yeah the idea with this mix was definitely to make something smooth and flowing, creating deliberate tension, so there aren't many surprises. I play a lot different live however.

Posted by Allied Nations on Jul-15-2007 02:06:

kind of agreeing with bubbleguum.. its deep alright, but it doesnt have that much depth.. more experience more time and this will come...

im gonna dig up one of my buddy's deep house mixes.. he plays all the time in baltimore, been spinning for yeeears and yeeears, all vinyl, and it's something else

Sorry, could you clarify this for me? it's poetic but i don't get it lol

how was the mix though? i can work on the branding i guess?

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-15-2007 04:36:

what the fuck is afterhours prog

this isnt even remotely prog

Kinda feels like it's trying a bit too hard.. I'm not sure to be honest... it doesn't sparkle

its not that the mixing isnt good, it's not that the tracks arent good it just doesnt do anything to really stand out and shine... at least for my ears.

i know that's still pretty vague but it's all i have at the moment

silly me

I have no idea what I was thinking. (I think I was drunk...) lol

Posted by nefardec on Jul-15-2007 08:35:

@allied - ok, yeah i get you. there's nothing you can say, other than some mixes have it and some don't.

it seems that maybe it's too tame for some ears. I

this is criticism i got from a close friend right when i released it:

quote:
Hey, just listened to it. Technically I can't fault it, lovely progression, I don't even have a clue when some of the tracks change. Can't hear a single glitch or jarring clash of keys or rhythms. It is almost like listening to a smooth improv Jazz session or something.

And that is my problem with it. I mean, its beautiful... but it just doesn't "do it" for me.

So yeah, I'm taking notes on it. You're completely right about experience. I've only deejayed 3 years and only seriously for maybe a year and a half. And only in the last few months have I really been able to dedicate myself to a scene. So I'm in a constant state of self-reflection and taking in everything around me. It's the negative criticism that motivates me most anyways

it's funny you guys criticize this aspect of the mix, because drama in a mix is one of the defining aspects of a good mix for me. i find it easier to create drama in a live set when there is a crowd - maybe when i am in a closed studio recording a cd mix i lose it.

Posted by Yohan on Jul-15-2007 09:06:

I think I was talking about the programming around 47 min mark where it goes to that acid tune. It sounds very odd

its this sort of thing which makes me realize i was right when i said it was trying too hard... maybe think a little less about the next one and feel a little more? from what you said it seems like u took a loooong time planning out the TL... maybe try a something a little more improvised

greg no offense, but he does this using decks and you do it using ableton studio mode. I loved the last mix you did alot, but if it would have been live shit i'm sure there would have been some detractors too. You had a million opportunities to fix up your mix..he had just one. It makes a huge difference you know. (and im not taking anything away from your mix as good beats is good beeats...just yeah it all seems a little hypocritical)
