In addition, I've seen quite a few people live and I can honestly say that Picotto was far and away the most boring. I've seen people whose music wasn't really my thing but that nevertheless I've enjoyed because the music was diverse and interesting or it was something a bit different and I wanted to see how it went down on a big system. But not Picotto.

I read an interview a while back where he said that there are only two types of music; 'good' and 'bad'. He needs to look up 'mediocre'.

Well, chesco, that was YEARS ago. He was alright back then but now he is best at playing music which makes people snooze.

Posted by tyos on Jun-02-2007 10:26:

and this track is boring and cheesy. For me his last good ep was Tao Tek.

I'm well aware when 2001 was but the point made was he couldn't understand why picotto was such a big name dj, I was merely pointing out he used to play quite legendary sets (in much the same way that people think tiesto used to play legendary sets)

I'm not totally fussed by his music anymore either btw.

dont kill the messenger, MIXMAG listed as a top trance track in either may or aprils issue, thats why i made up this thread, I KNOW now many of u will say "o mixmag has no clue about music anyhow' so dont turn this into a bash mix mag thread, just thought this was not the typical techno stuff hes been doing, even if its not trance

So there must be something wrong with people if they don't have the same taste in music as you do? Yeah great logic.

No they didn't. They included it in the Hard Dance section, although inevitably they associated it with "minimal" in the blurb. Whether Mixmag know anything or not is irrelevant considering they didn't at all call this track "trance".

EDIT: As for the track, I like it a lot. I've always been a Picotto fan, and this sounds a lot like the stuff he's been doing for the last two albums, albeit at a lower tempo.

Doesn't sound bad, but it's nothing mindblowing either.

I got his 2002 Gatecrasher & its prolly one of my favorite sets. Only 78 minutes or so though. Do u have any links to any other longer sets?

My bad system, your right, although the Hard Dance section always seems to be an extension of the trance page, since only 1 page is devoted to trance, as 1000 are devoted to house, the hard dance page usually features the like of Sander Van doorn, Marco V, Joop,

u cant listen to much picotto then hes got plenty of downtempo tracks like this its nothing new look on beatport or any other site

I don't think it's bad. sure a bit commercial sonically but it's a really chill grooving track. I think just because there is a flatulent saw lead people find it easy to compare it with cheesier 'electrohouse', but i think it's a bit smarter. Sounds like mauro picotto meets eric prydz and sebastien leger. don't really like the drop out of the low frequencies and breakdowns though

Posted by basd on Jun-02-2007 22:07:

I think it's rather shit. Might be because I'm not at all into this sound, but still.

Posted by GT40 on Jun-02-2007 22:29:

Best mix is the Christian Smith & John Selway remix, its a great techno remix of the track, more minimal and funkier.

Picotto's sets at the minute are really good, been enjoying them for quite a while now, better than 2 years ago say.
