If you can afford the Sony headphones, I wouldn't buy the HD280's, although I would buy Senns.
Sennheiser HD25 headphones are, put simply, the best headphones for the price.
Sony headphones tend to colour the sound and although they sound nice and bright and a big clear bass, the sennheiser overall give a more 'true' representation of what the music actually sounds like.
The Grado headphones, especially the 60's for the value they offer, are stunning, but a bit cumbersome and not really the most portable for taking out and about.

Sennheiser...
ive had sony v6's since i started dj'ing
still using the same pair...
i use them when i do night-time production as well...
best $60 i spent (ebay
)
so... id recommend them
the right answer is go to a place and pick the ones that feel the best and sound good to you.
Most of the replies disregarded the fact he wants them for home listening not djing. So I'd recommend an open air headphone that allows air flow that aren't as hot and less ear damage.
I'd lean towards Sennheisers, they're a little more fragile but more comfortable. This shouldn't be an issue for home use.
Go to guitar center and try them out yourself. You're just gonna' get bombarded with different opinions in this thread.
