Hints, part two:

31. Trance producer with over 50 aliases, plus additional collabs. Released in 1999.

32. Huge Harthouse classic. Sven Vth was involved in this project.

35. The maker of this track seems to like both giving and receiving at the same time. Little mistress.

39. Seeing as this has only been partially ID:ed, I guess I have to give hints. The remixer is colored.

41. Made by a lazy producer. The singer on this track seems obsessed with someone's mug.

43. The artist is a dead president, the track describes a weird container.

45. This is by one of the people behind the Wagon Repair label.

46. Big UK Garage classic. The artist is a race in the Star Wars universe, and the track, well, is what those movies are mainly about.

47. This track has seen a number of releases on Eye Q. The man behind it is originally Persian.

50. Quite a hasty fellow who's had a large number of releases on Warp, Plus8 and NovaMute. The track is a common condiment.

51. Huge Underground Resistance classic. A lot of this artist's tracks are about space, even his name is infact.

52. Released on LowRiders.

54. In collaboration with another artist, this track was made by the founder of Palette Recordings. The track seems to have sprung from a hollow verbal expression.

55. No, it's not a remix of Technologic. Rather, the maker of this track is describing life in one of the most high-crime cities in the world. If you figure out which city that is, well then you have half the title right there.

60. By the originators of progressive house.

61. By another group that's even more famous than the above. This is one of their first works, released on FFRR.

66. Now why would you want to have sex with a giant ball of hydrogen/helium? This recently got a remake by Sean Tyas' loverboy.

67. Originally released as the B-side to a record that Paul van Dyk is famous for remixing.

74. Tracks by this producer appear on two of James Zabiela's mix CDs. He doesn't seem too concerned with what you name his style.

75. An artist that was signed to Guerilla for quite some time. This track was released on an EP named after a metallic sound.

I've not entered one for ages, but I'm back at home on a good connection now, so downloading is no problem. I think I could do fairly well here if I work at it. Fairly well by my usual standards, anyway.

There's been a lack of updates since, well, there's been a lack of submissions. Cobalt manages to swoop in and take the lead though, and FuzzyChicken and montana improve their scores a bit.

Lots of stuff I recognize being a Sasha fan.

And I have to write down some of the slower IDs because they are very nice.

Funny thing, the computer with all the contest files on it crashed this morning and won't start up. So any uniques from now on will be based on my memory of which ones have been ID'd how many times.

Alright, 4 hours left. It's looking to be quite a struggle.

A lot were submitted through IRC PMs, and the logs are of course on the other computer.

Posted by distant on Jun-20-2007 22:42:

Btw the time in the first post is PM, so you peeps still have an hour-ish to submit.

YEAH!!! at least I'm not in last place..great contest...it was actually my first time participating in such event...I'll try to join for another. I could of done better but a lot of the tunes were older...and I just got into EDM in 03-04 with trance and then proggy house in 05+...so I wasn't that great.

Love to play more in the future..and get some ID's on a few of those tunes!

Posted by Cobalt on Jun-20-2007 23:34:

Eh, I can't be arsed to dig up a few more. No time to make another contest, anyway.

Well, lacks wins... by 1 point. Congrats.

Sljiva joined in at the last minute, pretty sure he had some uniques but I really have no way of knowing for sure due to the computer problem.

Full answer sheet coming in a bit.

Posted by distant on Jun-21-2007 02:03:

01. Jondi & Spesh - Impenetrable Sayonara

Didn't really expect anyone to get this one, it's not really known for anything. Pretty good progtrance from back in the day though.

02. Salt Tank - Badlands

Salt Tank, as always brilliant. Nobody fully ID'ed this iirc, only Cobalt got a partial.

03. Christian West - Eterna (Main Mix)

Played by the likes of Oakey, Sasha & Digweed back in '99-ish. This is fucking proper progressive trance.

04. Silicon Soul - Who Needs Sleep Tonight (Abe Duque Remix)

I figured this would get a few more ID's, but only Mr.Mystery got it right. Strange.

05. Hybrid - Gravastar

Hybrid when they're not doing breaks. They pull it off quite well I'd say. Nicely spacey progressive house, pretty unique.

06. Danny Tenaglia - Turn Me On (Bedrock Remix)

Nobody got this until I gave hints. It's Bedrock, people!

07. Matthew Dekay - Beautiful Monday

Lovely laid-back progressive house from a few years ago.

08. Esser'Ay - Forces (Carl Craig's Mix)

This is pretty recognizable, if you've heard it at all that is. Quite a classic within techno, otherwise not so much.

09. N-Joi - Anthem

Pretty damn classic track right here. I think 3 or so people ID'ed this, which is not enough.

10. Spicelab - We Got Spice (Humate Remix)

Every contest must include Oliver Lieb. That's just the way it is. I guess it doesn't have a very recognizable melody, but a couple of contestants managed to find it.

11. Nebula II - Mortal Axis

Nobody got this until I gave hints, as expected, since they're known for hardcore breakbeat and acid rather than this trance piece. This only appeared on a compilation, but I thought the older trance fans might like it so I put it in the contest.

12. The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds

I can't think of many other downtempo/ambient classics. I can't believe the low number of ID's on this one.

13. 326 - Falling (Armando's House Mix)

A forgotten classic, I'd say. Pretty damn recognizable though, and people familiar with the genre could probably figure out that Armando was involved.

14. Isolee - Tout Se Complique

A random one I threw in there for the minimal crew. I like the vocal bits in this one.

15. Virtual Symmetry - The V.S.

Really recognizable trance tune from the early 90's, what with the piano and all. The fact that it was in the Goa Mix makes it even easier.

16. Fluke - Bullet (Empirion Mix)

Mart wanted Fluke, so I gave him Fluke.

17. Mario Piu & Mauro Picotto - Spectra (Action Mix)

Played by PvD in 2000-ish. Figured there were some Picotto fans around, but alas it only got 1 or 2 ID's.

18. DJ Edge - Compnded

Huge rave classic. J00F remixed this iirc, but this is the original. Ian got it immediately.

19. Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity

Only 2 people DIDN'T get this one. What can I say? A chart topper back in 1996, and a brilliant pop-funk tune nonetheless.

20. Disco Evangelists - De Niro (The Journey)

Known for its huge break which you can hear in the end of the sample. Progressive house classic. I required (The Journey) to get 3 points on this one, since there is no "original mix" that I know of.

21. Jori Hulkkonen - Whispers

Jori is just great. This track has a beautiful melody so I wanted to give it some exposure. It went ID-less though.

22. Venetian Snares - Hajnal

Anyone who's heard the album this is on (Rossz Csillag Alatt Szletett) will know it instantly. There's just no other piece of music like it. Comes close to being my favorite album of all time.

23. Sourmash - Atlantic Shores

Not a known trance tune, but trance nonetheless. Didn't get any ID's though.

24. Lustral - Everytime (Yunus Remix)

Yunus, one of my favorite progressive house artists from when I used to listen to the genre, serves up a dark remix of the otherwise cheery classic "Everytime".

25. Genecom - Sunchase

Adam Beyer and some other dude are behind this number from the 90's. Much better than the Swedish techno these days.

26. Mental Cube - Q

One of my favorites from FSOL, surprised so few knew it. This is aimed at the dancefloor unlike a lot of their other stuff.

27. Quench - Hope (Carl Cox Remix)

Quench is known for "Dreams" of course, but he also managed to throw together an album back in 1994, and a bunch of remixes were also issued.

28. S.O.L. - Quantensprung

Oliver Lieb again. This appeared on the Yoshiesque compilation which may've gained it some more exposure.

29. Liaisons Dangereuses - Peut Etre... Pas

Random 80's. Didn't expect anyone to get it, but Cobalt apparently knew it.

30. Graffik - A Lesser Man? (Satoshi Tomiie Remix)

Prog house tune from 2002 with a pretty distinct melody. I like it, but that's partially the nostalgia speaking.

31. The Blackmaster - Solid Tube

Whaaat? No IDs? It's M.I.K.E.! And it appeared in Oakey's 1999 EMs!

32. Metal Masters - Spectrum

Harthouse classic, nothing more to it. Really old school trance fans will pick up on this instantly.

33. Green Velvet - The Stalker (Laidback Luke Remix)

Random tech-house. Amusing vocals and a nice groove though.

34. Apollo 440 - Stop The Rock (Gigolo Remix)

This got quite a few IDs, one of the semi-obvious trance tracks I decided to throw in.

35. 69 - Microlovr

Carl Craig. Anyone familiar with his older works should at least recognize this.

36. DJ Sakin & Friends - Protect Your Mind (Van Bellen Remix)

From one of Sasha's old mix CDs. Everyone should've heard this at some point, but only a few got it.

37. Kraftwerk - Numbers

It's German, it's electro, and it's about numbers. What else?

38. Ed Rush, Optical & Fierce - Alien Girl

Tech-step classic. If you're into d'n'b you're bound to know this.

39. Cygnus X - The Orange Theme (Red Jerry Prolekult Remix)

Most partially IDed track ever. Not surprising, as the track has a huge amount of remixes. I prefer this one though due to the psyched-out vocal sample.

40. Paris & Healey - Blue

My favorite progressive house track of all time. Sadly it didn't get all that much publicity back in 2004, so here's me giving it a slight boost.

41. Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid)

Nobody got Slacker? Come on! One of my favorite artists ever, sadly the act hasn't been as good since they split up.

42. Aphex Twin - Isopropophlex

From his first Analogue Bubblebath. As AFX is pretty fucking whored out on just about every EDM forum on the internet, I really expected some more people to ID his first ever release.

43. Lincoln - Funky Odd Box

Random house track that Zabiela played. I like it quite a bit.

44. Swayzak ft. Kirsty Hawkshaw - State Of Grace (Silicon Scally Rework)

Nicely melancholic, I love her voice on this one. The beats are just minimal enough too.

45. Mathew Jonson - Ultraviolet Dream

Mr. Jonson has been whored from all ends in the last few years, so I expected some of you to be familiar with his works.

46. Wookie - Battle

Big UK Garage tune. The hint should've tipped just about everyone off.

47. 16B - Water Ride

Smooth house tune, got a number of remixes back in the day.

48. Dirty Gringos - Cowbell (Ebon Remix)

This was quite talked about back in 2004, surprised that not many remember it. This remix was the most popular one, but never got a full release afaik. Samples Christopher Walken yada yada...

49. Model 500 - Time Space Transmat

Huge electro classic, maybe not as big as "Clear" but still. The vocal gives the track title away, and I think it's pretty obvious that it's Juan Atkins.

50. Speedy J - Pepper

Random pick. Quite a nice trancer from Speedy J.

51. The Martian - Stardancer

Huge techno classic. I later realised I should've sampled it after the breakdown... that's where the madness really takes off.

52. Bart van Wissen - One Reason

Random prog house. Played in a great set, more specifically Sasha & Digweed @ Renaissance 2004.

53. Angelmoon - He's All I Want (Cappery Mix)

Played by Oakey in 1999, and has appeared on a number of compilations. I didn't sample the vocals because it would've made it too easy.

54. John Tejada & Arian Leviste - From Empty Words

Bit of a random pick. One bad thing about albums is that most of the tracks on them never get much play live. This is a pretty sweet tune, thought people should know about it.

55. Terry Lynn - Kingstonlogic (Shining Star Mix)

Lyrics performed in the style of Technologic. This one, however, is about crime in Jamaica's capital city. Quite a nifty idea I thought.

56. Deep Dish - Stay Gold

Deep Dish's best work. End of.

57. Union Jack - Lollipop Man

Excellent old school trance from Simon Berry. Fans should recognize it.

58. Cybordelics - Alice In Wonderland

Somewhat classic track, I'd say. Released on Harthouse.

59. Jamie Lidell - When I Come Back Around

Oh, how I wish I had the voice of Jamie. Not only that, but he produces his own stuff too. Doesn't get much funkier.

60. Leftfield - Space Shanty

Eeeh... I feel that not enough people got this. The album is classic by now, anyone who's into house should've heard it.

61. Orbital - Omen

Random Orbital. This was their second release apparently.

62. Pob ft. X-Avia - The Awakening (Seismix)

Lovely trance on Platipus. This label can't get enough praise.

63. Loleatta Holloway - Love Sensation

Big and gay disco classic.

64. Way Out West - Apollo

My favorite track by WoW.

65. Underworld - Cups (Salt City Orchestra Mix)

I'm not much of an Underworld fan, but damn this is groovy. Excellent job on the remix.

66. Viridian - Sunhump

Only 1 person got this. Considering it's such a classic and it recently got a crap remake by Richard Durrrrrand, I'd say that's pretty

67. Humate - Curious

Lovely alternative to "Love Stimulation". I don't like piano in trance much, but this works well.

68. Public Energy - Three-O-Three

Speedy J again. Huge acid classic, even bigger than Edge Of Motion - Set Up 707 which nobody but Psy-T got in my last contest.

69. Resistance D - Human (Laurent Garnier Remix)

Now this is just classic. Mr. Garnier makes it more detroity in a sense.

70. Delerium - Euphoria (Firefly) (Rabbit In The Moon's Divine Gothic Disco Mix)

Pretty groovy house track, got a couple of IDs.

71. Paul van Dyk - Pikes

Not so well known tune by Paul, but I like it a lot more than most of the other weak junk he puts out.

72. Timo Maas - Feedback Welcome ALSO ACCEPTED Timo Maas - High Drama

The former is the instrumental, the latter is the vocal album version. This was actually around back in 2003, but got released years later.

73. Phuture - Slam

I don't know, I thought it had a pretty solid old school acid house feel. Only Psy-T got it though.

74. PJ Davy - Call It What You Want

Random prog house tune. I like the melancholic melody in it.

75. Spooky - Relief

You mean to say that you didn't recognize that voice? He uses it in just about every track. Anyway, this is one of his earlier releases.

Posted by Clovis on Jun-21-2007 02:34:

Great list, I should have known alot more of those.

Btw, #54 is available free on beatport...

Posted by Cobalt on Jun-21-2007 03:14:

Pssh. There are literally a dozen ways I could have gotten that point.
quote:
06. Danny Tenaglia - Turn Me On (Bedrock Remix)

Nobody got this until I gave hints. It's Bedrock, people!

That's terrible! I recognized it instantly, but didn't enter the contest until after you'd posted hints.
quote:
66. Viridian - Sunhump

Only 1 person got this. Considering it's such a classic and it recently got a crap remake by Richard Durrrrrand, I'd say that's pretty

I was the only one to get Sunhump??
