well, this is a hard one. If i tell you something now, and you go out and buy it in like 6 weeks, it will not be accurate anymore. Currently i would go for an athlon, unless you need the Q3 speed of a P4...
generally the Athlon gives you a better 'bang/buck', but that may change if there is more P4 optimized software.

If you can wait, consider getting one of the new Athlons (Thoroughbred) that will come out end of may (methinks) which will run cooler and with less power.

DDR333 is a waste of $$ on an Athlon platform, since the Athlon runs at a 266MHZ interface to the chipset. So unless you are using the memory for integrated graphics (which suck most of the time) there is no reason to go down that router. Espcially I would recommend waiting for a 'mature' DDR333 chipset -experience has shonw that the KTxxxA (xxx is a number) chipsets are pretty nice.

Currenlty I would recommend to spend as little as possible to get the most for your $$..

quick recomendation for a system base:
Athlon XP1800 (was best price/perf a couple of weeks ago)
ECS K7S5A or K7S6A, either of these are fast, cheap and reliable, but nothing for overclocking
ATI 8500 (~100 USD.. very good price/ perf)

adding to drizzt81's post up there...

get a good amount of ram... nowadays multitasking is becomming harder and harder cuz everything wants memory.. i recommend at least 256 if not 512.. just helps a TON!

(im gettin a gig of PC2700)

Thanks a lot m8....
Now i have much more clear the idea.
Well io think i'm gonna but a new pc for the half of june .So maybe as ayou said, there will be the new athlon, but i think that the price will be still high for the 15th of june.My budget is ,mi think and i hope ,around 600 - 650 euro. And with the money i hope to buy a processor, mother board , ram , hard disk.I'm not sure for the video card yet....I have a geeforce 2 gts 32mb now and it goes ok till now .....

But a thing i didn't understand.......
you are saying to me that the P4 it's actually more faster then an Athlon???

thanks a lot .....

The P4's clock speed is faster than the Athlon's clock speed but the Athlon does more operations per cycle.. (Athlon dores 9/cyc, p4 does 6/cyc)

Theres not much difference at speeds that higs (aside from a few points on a benchmark) as far as im concerned.. Either you just want to have the fastes clock speed out there or you prefer atlon or p4.. really its not a big deal, athlon is just cheaper for the performance you get.
get it?

cheers
Marc

Oh and ram at the moment in the uk is expensive, well it was a few weeks back, but ram goes up and down all the time. So try and by the ram as late as possible, as the price seems to be going down. But this may not be the case in the US, or the rest of europe as the uk is expensive, but everything else is pritty much dirt cheep.

this is the resolution you should use, [i believe it is the default]
1024x768 / 32 Bit / 85Hz

where did i get this from?
1. I believe it is default for 3dmark2001 SE
2. It is what they use on "tomshardware.com" as part of their benchmarking of most top vid cards : Link Here: tomshardware.com

Sorry what is the point. U are turning this into a compertition, we r all lucky to have computers. Although mine is better

Heh jokes. I think posting the spec is enough
