lol

i think there are several answers to the question being asked, and some have already pointed them out. like oj (big boss) said, it is being promoted - just not mass promotion the way seans events received (whether boa, or sonic). the venue itself is small - holds 200 tops... he wanted a chance to play a tight, rocking environment, during regular club hours (rather than a huge space that would be half full).

he is in a lot of ways like luke fair - always seems to get more attention internationally, rather than his hometown (for whatever reason). sure his style has more 'edge' than what he used to play, but he still is one of only a few dj's that can get me moving on the dancefloor these days.

i'm looking forward to saturday, and even more to playing alongside sean later this year.

based on his bookings, i think it's pretty clear my statement is a legit one.

i don't think he would consistantly be booked in miami, mexico, new york, l.a., more often than toronto - if it werent for the success he has had playing in those cities.

Posted by jon jon on Jun-08-2007 04:37:

I can agree Sean has played in those cities, sure. Does that mean he is bigger in Mexico than he is in Toronto? Give me a break. lol

(and how can you say he played those cities more than Toronto? Fuck he played here every month last year)

jon, i think my original point was 'he gets more attention internationally than he does in his own hometown' - and to prove that i mentioned he gets more bookings globally, than he does in toronto.

last year, he played no more than once every two months (in toronto) - but that was due to the fact he was on tour with lawler.

i'm not trying to say he is not popular in toronto, if he wasn't he would never had a residency here - i was simply putting his demand in perspective, using gigs as a measure.

Posted by jon jon on Jun-08-2007 04:43:

Yeah I know, and I disagree. I think he gets way more attention in Toronto than he does internationally.

I don't think this gig is a reflection of that all, his fanbase here HAS to be bigger.

you haven't proved that, all you've done is mention said other tour dates...

how does having gigs and touring different cities prove that he has more attention outside of Toronto? all that proves to me is that he's touring, which is in fact contra to your argument, "touring" to me means getting outside of our local fanbase and trying to get exposure.

If he was a (club) resident in those cities you mentioned, you'd have a better argument.

Jeff, you were supposed to be banned from this thread. Next time I'm using a cage.

Anyway, not sure if this helps or not, but here is a visitor map from Sean's myspace page:

I must admit I am curious about the fan that sits somewhere off the coast of Madagascar...
