Right when 2002 started the prices took a big drop which killed my profits when refined. Also if i were to do this again i need to find a more efficient way to cut a catalytic converter open. The plasma cutter i bought did the job but it was very slow & messy. It took me about 2 weeks to cut open about 375 catalytic converters.

damn! id be like you and wouldnt think that it was a very competitive business. i guess its kinda a waste then. maybe sell the unrefined stuff to another company?

I got a price on that back in 2001 & the company offered $10 a pound. If i did that back then i would have barely made a profit. I basically would have profited $1000 for 2 weeks of labor. Which isnt worth it imo. I would rather find a more efficient way of cutting the cats open & start doing it again. I talked to a auto bone yard by me back then & they said they sold 500-600 catalytic converters a month to a recycle company. The company paid on average $20.31 per cat. So for the month the recycle company gave then a check for over $12k for used & broken converters. If i refine my current catalyst i would take the money & use it to buy that auto bone yards catalytic converters & try & get the comany going again.

hehe, i saw this in a movie called Prime, which is about time travel. I think they walked into some mall's parking lot and just took one off to pay for some expensive material they needed for their machine.
