Promoters build condos for a reason, land costs more and more and the only to offset that is to build more and reap the profits.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Sorry for the confusion. I have not been contracted by the developer.
This proposal is for a competition, in which the winning team/person will have their structure built.

The developer asked for a condo, but they seemed rather unsure of how to use the space. At the Q&A they seemed rather open to ideas and asked competitors for ways to use the lot.

I realize that submitting another design may automatically disqualify me from the competition, but I'm not doing this to win. Even if they just flip through my application, I hope they pick up on some ideas which will later influence them in constructing the condo.

However after reading some responses in other forums, I have started to question whether the problem are condos themselves, or just the lack of innovative design.
A lot of people commented on wanting more green space and that living wall sounds like a really cool idea. I may end up designing a condo after all...

I would like to see the whole waterfront covered by one big, long pedestrian street, flanked by parks and small restaurants/pubs/coffeeshops. Basically, make it a space where people can just walk around for hours, and feel like they're not in the nitty gritty of the city anymore. I think the waterfront should be Torontonians' escape from the everyday city life.

so you're working on a proposal which you will be profiting from... and you're asking tranceaddict for ideas?

will you be paying a consultaion fee?

Right here.

I want things I can do on foot, and a large no-car zone is exactly what we need.

I agree with that.

Something where you can walk and a bunch of pedestrians can just walk enjoy an ice cream at a parlour, chill relax to some jazz music at a cafe, or have a romantic dinner at. All while facing the lake. With bunch of trees, scenary, music, and bright lighting (don't want drug dealers or prostitutes hanging around there.

Basically something like new orleans, or in movies where couples have nice walks, and for some reason there's always a water garden kinda thing where you run through it and a sprinker would spray vertically at you (like in the Simpsons when they built a waterfront and Lisa was baby sitting).

Haha, why would you base any important decision on a Star poll?

Posted by catinthehat on Jun-18-2007 23:01:

Toronto needs a bridge. A nice big, cool bridge.

Look at all the world class cities...they all have cool bridges. Toronto doens't have a cool bridge. That's what's keeping us from glory.

Let's build a bridge. doesn't matter where or what for. Just a big bridge.
