tenaglia's been spinning since the earlier days as well...maybe not as long as Francois K and knuckles though.

Imagine a DJ of your dad's age spinning for you . I don't think he'll be able to create quite the vibe for teenagers who mostly populate the clubs.

Posted by miamitranceman on Jun-24-2007 01:56:

Probably as long as they can hear.

so many posts which consider only the physical condition of the DJs. The DJ is an entertainer. He should perform only as long as he can entertain the crowds.

Digweed just turned 40 this year, Sasha is almost 40, and Oakenfold is nearly 50. I'd say they're someone's dad's age right about now. And like someone mentioned earlier Francois K is still rocking (even better than before) and he's well over 50. Like miamitranceman said, probably as long as they can hear

Posted by Omega_M on Jun-24-2007 02:22:

read mah second post

There is a universal agreement that Cokenfold is shit. A few others may be exceptions. So long as they can create the vibe, they should keep performing...even if they turn 100. But yeah, by then they'll be stone deaf and senile

Edit : Your sig is waay over limits dude. The sig nazis seem to have already reported you to the mods. Better change it yourself else you gona suffer the ignominy of a mod h4xing it.

Posted by nefardec on Jun-24-2007 02:33:

francois k is absolutely sick

i would go to his party at cielo every monday if i didn't have to keep explaining why i came in to to work after lunch every tuesday

he's playing with juan atkins (another long time dj) on july 2nd...

Posted by bas on Jun-24-2007 02:37:

I know, my sig has already been changed, I just changed it back

Anyway, I agree 100% that Oakenfold sucks...but he's still getting and playing gigs so that's why I figured he's relevant.

Some of the best DJs are 40-50-ish. Sven vath is 43 I think.

Dj doran from la and crush recording is the only dj i know of that was force to retire because of hearing problems he had from djing.

so you must realize we need a breathe of fresh air...most of the DJs hit it big when they were in their 20s..and they are still out there in the field. We need new people.

Why not? My dad has a far more diverse taste in music than 90% of the people here and he's 50.

Hehe I know one well known DJ that has special ears that he has been born with. His hearing hairs have the ability to grow back after any damage. Quite handy when you are a DJ.

what? is that a joke?
i want some of those ears

You asked a silly question... Djs have not been around long enough to make this decision.. i guess people grow out of the scene...

I doubt many djs in thier 70s would still be happy to make music in a scene filled drugs and youth.

The thread is about how long can one make it as a DJ as his 'career' .. and at 50 it sure will be hard to sell..

Why?

Posted by Paulino on Jun-26-2007 15:59:

it can span from 5 minutes to 5 hours

Posted by denys envy on Jun-26-2007 19:11:

your career is straight until you do something like this -

Posted by SuspicionVandit on Jun-26-2007 21:12:

i don't think anyone here knew what DJ Sammy looked like(or even his age) until recently, but the fact that it's been revealed he's a midget, it hasn't affected the fact he's still a top 700-list DJ in the public's eye.

DJs don't need faces or a birthday, they just need the talent.
