To those who think they can DJ better when drunk: try recording your intoxicated mix and then listen to it the the next day.

Funny story: There was a guy here who decided to do shrums or something like that, mix psy, and record the mix. He mixed for 4 hours. All he heard the next day was noise because he messed up with wiring.

yea, i've done it.
the mixes are actually pretty decent.

the thing is when you're semi-buzzed, you're less paranoid about if the track is out of sync ever-so slightly, and thus don't attempt to 'fix' it.
whereas if you're sober, u notice the tiny, nearly unnoticable, sync problems, and in a attempt to fix it, you make it worse.

but anyways, regardless of perfect mixing or not... its just more fun to dj with some juice in the vains... and thats what matters right? :P

just like in the 320 vs wav thread

just because you can't do it doesn't mean other people can't

after working in the nightclub industry for years, playing drunk is comfortable and the results aren't what you'd think

i have recorded sets and mix cds both after drinking and sober, my drunk cds are tighter and flow well

when i'm sober i start thinking, not always about djing and tend to be a little sloppy

after a few drinks in me, i can get into the music and start getting into a solid groove

everything just happens, it's second nature now

You have to find a balance as although you mix better the more you drink, the more often your'e gonna need the toilet, and you don't to have to keep running off to take a piss every half an hour.

I have no problems going to the bathroom six times during a set.

Yesterday I came home after a few beers and puffs and came up with the craziest and tightest mixes I've ever done.

If done properly the track selection becomes easier and there's more will to experiment.

Don't know why, I have always had an iron bladder... As long as I go before I'm on, I can go for hours.
Of course you could try the other approach and get so loaded that you don't care even if you shit yourself... Tends to make it harder to get with the ladies though.

Cheers

4-6, after that It all goes a bit mad but not in the good way.

Posted by djimmersion on Jun-22-2007 23:49:

i remember the last time i had a few I was cueing a song with the main speakers and listening to the song that was supposed to be playing in my headphones, i have not DJ'ed and consumed alcahol seince, and i belive that anyone who thinks alcahol makes them a better DJ is talking shit beacuse alcahol relaxes your muscles, so its pretty damn hard to beatmach when your loosy goosy for the time you have that buzz, but of course you are not gunna be aware of this beacuse you are under the influance

no, you're just a light weight

Posted by phizzle on Jun-23-2007 19:42:

I'm able to line shit up better and make things sound better when im messed up because I think I'm more in tune with the music. If I'm at home by myself, I just don't seem to be able to get into my little groove and tear shit up. Since I'm like a few of the people here, a drinking machine, I'd say about 6 and I'm feeling a little buzzed, but by the time I get to 10 (this is if I'm slamming them, which I do when I'm having a good time), the beat matching just doesn't seem important any more :P

When I get really smashed, This happens to me alot, I'll start to mix into the next track, have it lined up great and bring it back to the same track, or I'll forget which deck I just finished with and hit cue on the wrong deck and kill the music lol

LMFAO!!!

No disrespect meant to anyone, but that was spot on in terms of humour.

I can mix pretty well drunk; however, this one time I was on some 1200 Mk2s and kept hitting the power dial. I would keep brushing the platter trying to speed it up, but my efforts were futile as the record would slow down again.

Every time this happened it took me a bit to realize the red light was off, and another minute to figure out how to turn it back on.

amen to that

I find that when it comes to booze, as long as im not having trouble standing up Im fine to mix. However, give me a spliff and it all goes to pot, doubly so if Im pissed.
