it would be racist if they were targetting aboriginals specifically. instead, they are targetting particular communities, where it would be impossible for ANYONE to get alcohol. this is not a first stage, we have dry areas in places all over the country.

That's not a part of Australia. Consider it like Mexico.

are you? are you REALLY? do you think:

people should be able to drink in the street?
at work?
whilst driving?

you see, we all have limitations to what we consider acceptable behaviour. we haven't banned drinking. we just have rules governing the use of alcohol like anyone else.

Posted by Sunsnail on Jun-22-2007 03:57:

That's along the same lines as "we should ban marijuana. Do you want your surgeon to be high while he's operating on you?" pure bollocks. that's no reason to ban a substance

well, WOULD you like a surgeon to smoke up before cutting you open? thus doctors have strict guidelines for operating on people. they are in effect, BANNED from consuming alcohol prior to surgery.

its not a real ban, its a "dry area". completely different.

Dude, what the fuck are you on about?

I do not think traditional outback aboriginal communities would be happy if you were tyring to help them with your american way of thinking. What is not stated in that article is that it is actually the native aboriginal elders that influence our prime minister to take action banning alcohol. It's not racist driven. People need to understand the culture, the politics & the background before they jump to conclusions. The posted article is a typical media spam of over reaction & one sided hype.

& who said Australia was smaller than america???

You'd be surprised!
