were you on the 4,5,6 line by chance? locals always seem to run faster than the express at a certain point on those trains.

I think by 2010 its sposed to become $2.40...with the monthly unlimited going up to $99 or something around that range. Hrms do u THINK that the 2nd avenue subway line will be completed even by then??? Just saying...that is/was one of many projects that the hikes/taxes are sposed to go to now in order to facilitate completion

I am sure that the Eastsiders are super-excited, then, to have the construction of the 2nd Ave line back up and running (supposedly anyways).

I saw this poster in the subway, saying that they were building the 2nd ave line in intervals: like downtown to 4th to be entirely completed FIRST, then 4th to 96th, then 96th to 125th. (orwhatever the numbers were). That way at least they can get part of it running while they work on the rest. That should take some pressure of the east side lines.

they've been ripping up the trackbeds on the express lines around grand/elmhurst avenues the last few weekends. i think the trains have to go slow because of the temporary track placements.

Eyewitness News

(New York - WABC) - Eyewitness News has learned of scattered power outages in the South Bronx into Manhattans east side.
The Transit Authority says service is affected on the 4, 5 and 6 lines and E & Z on the east side and the D train in the Bronx.
Trains are moving, and running on DC power, but the signals are what's affected because they run on AC which is supplied by Con Ed.
The source of the problem is not known.
Residents said traffic lights were out for 20 blocks on Lexington Avenue between the 60s and the 80s, while others said that the East Side subway lines weren't operating.
Con Edison couldn't say how many customers had lost power. The city was in the second day of temperatures well over 90 degrees.
The Transit Authority says its problems started after 3:30 p.m.
The NYPD tells us they are getting outage reports in the 19th pct and the 23rd on the Upper East Side, and 44 pct in the Bronx.

the 2nd ave subway is supposed to be done by sometime around 2020. i'm sure you'll be in suburb somewhere by that time.

Try the london underground in the summer.
No A/C on any trains. Not faulty or malfunctioning....there just is none.

yes but that's the ENTIRE 2nd ave line. Like I said, they are doing complete intervals, up and running for certain streets to offer some relief. I think it said 2011 the first section should be completed, and about 4-5 years each for the respective last two intervals each.

It should come like this: Downtown to 4th (I dont know the exact downtown numbers) done by 2011 (since they have actually had the tunnels done for years), 4th to 96th by 2016, 96 to 125th by 2022.

Expected construction dates:

-2007-2014[19]: Phase 1 (96th St. to 63rd St.) State Funding In-Place, Federal Funding Approved.[20] A $333 million contract was awarded on March 22, 2007 to three American firms to build Phase One. Construction work began on 2nd Avenue between 91st and 96th Streets on April 23, 2007 (though the ceremonial groundbreaking was held on April 12, 2007).
-2014-2017: Phase 2 (125th St. to 96th St.) Engineering ongoing. No funding commitments.
-2015-2018: Phase 3 (63rd St. to Houston St.) Engineering ongoing. No funding commitments.

so this line isn't really going to be functioning until 2018 when phase 3 is done. There's no use in going from 96th to 63rd, or even 125th to 63rd. Actually, i could see why Upper Eastsiders would rather just delay the opening until the entire thing is complete.

I hate relying on the MTA for my commute to work. The fucking LIRR blows ass. Whenever something is wrong you don't see a conductor or ticket collector until AFTER the problem is resolved, they're always in hiding. Sometimes they don't even let you know what the problem is over the PA.

As for the subways, they also suck. For $2 a ride, we should be entitled to MUCH better service. There was this fat lady (who worked for the MTA to direct traffic I guess) on the platform at the 51st St station for the 6 train, all she was doing was getting in the way. I was honestly tempted to fucking hip check her. Oh well, any changes they make won't go into effect for another few months/years. Bastards.

you really think you deserve more service for $2? If you bought a pack of gum that was about $2 dollars you wouldn't be complaining that the newstand guy owes you better service.

We're lucky to have such a good public transportation system. Honestly, i think the subway provides excellent service for the money. where else can you travel up to twenty miles (and even more) for two dollars? How much would a taxi cost from the upper west side to JFK? 40 - 50 dollars? If you walked even two miles it would cost more with all the stops to buy food or water.

yea train delays and no ac suck
and now alot of days when theres a train delay its cause of "police activity" at a train station so they shut it down or make the trains go reallly slow
but when subway lines are down for the like the weekend or a few days and they re-route trains its usually cause of track work
by time they finish the line they started in a few days they gotta start over again cause the rail and concrete they run on is weak

Touche, but I'm also a little bitter because I pay $239 for a monthly LIRR ticket that used to be $180 a few years ago. Even though that has nothing to do with the subway and is completely irrelevant, it still sucks. I'm also a little pissed today because I missed my 2:52pm train from Penn because the 6 train sucks.

but u know, im mostly cynical about the WHOLE project because wasn't the idea conceptualized back in the mid 70s/early 80s. the fact they just totally dawdled till NOW is just incredulous to me, esp. since the buses def do NOT serve as an adequate alternative. (going 6 miles an hour cuz ur stuck in NY F*CKIN TRAFFIC, GTFOH )
