You did not just say that.
Yes. There are two sides to every story. And if you remember much from your childhood days, you'll remember that one side often tends to be full of shit. And by using equivocation with loaded phrases like "freedom" or "human rights", demagogues can very easily manipulate those who place excessive emphasis on being "tolerant" and "open-minded".
Victimization has been elevated to an art form in today's society. I really don't care what their gripes are about; everybody has a reason for doing what they do, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. That's why the law doesn't take motive into into account - either you did it or you didn't.

why do you guys look at it as good vs. evil, isn't it more the haves vs the have-nots? |
In this case (not the general case) you're probably right, although it's still not an excuse (and I'm not saying that you meant it as one). Most of us in society are have-nots compared to someone or some group, but that doesn't mean we try to damage them personally or economically.
Most people are also in their current positions as a result of many previous conscious decisions, not as a result of pure dumb luck. It rarely stands to reason that an entire group could have chanced to be in some particular predicament without having done anything to get there.

No. Considering these terrorist types have access to resources to make themselves as prosperous as anyone in the world. |
considering that the primary resource available to most these "terrorist types" is oil and it being controlled by a money hungry < 1% of the population i can see why it is easier to point fingers at the "west" for having so much more. coupled with misinformation and religious rhetoric from a few fanatics is enough for them to take up arms.

That's a very accurate description of the breeding grounds for terrorism. I'm surprised to hear you conceding that the oppression is mostly taking place at home (or maybe that's a combination of misinterpretation and wishful thinking on my part
).
Edit: Ack, never mind, got confused between threads.

True.
Though I suppose it's easier to blame others than yourselves for predicament you're in.

Thanks Mr. Literal...
It certainly is close to us in similarity (with respect to freedom, democracy and way of life). |
there are definitely similarities... but they're pretty fucked up over there IMO. Terrorism in big cities there isn't anything new. Wasn't long ago that it was the IRA planing bombs on the regular.

Seems like the classy thing to do would be to edit the quote since I edited the post and admitted it was the wrong thread.
I got mixed up because a lot of the replies were pretty similar in both threads. Oh well.

Additional proof as to why freedom loving people must keep up the war on terror.
There are bad people in this world who seriously hate freedom and democratic rights and will attempt to intimidate those who are not like them and murder innocents just to spread a message of hate.
Finding explosives like this so close to home should remind us of the necessity to keep up our diligent effort to weaken and remove the world of organized terrorism. |
Sounds like a letter endorsed by Tony Snow.

Tony Snow is awesome. Never seen anyone else in the U.S. government handle nosey reporters so well. I'm sure you meant that as a really clever rebuff, but I'd take it as a compliment.
