...so yeah def dont think of him as the barometer in freshness anymore....but when you have been on top for so long sooner or later you will be there without being the best

Posted by Allied Nations on Jul-03-2007 21:47:

more than anything, no one can be the fucking point of freshness because you have a million losers downloading livesets and working to id every single track over the internet with entire sample catalogs available at your fingertips.

sasha is still pretty fucking fresh, unless you're a geek.

internet dance culture has changed what it means to be ungerground

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-03-2007 21:48:

im a geek...i listened to that one, but we both know i don't do live sets
i dont have fucking time lol.

there are still sets full of unidentifiable stuff...just look at stuff like sad does greg...a few biggies still play unreeleased shit.

and so does sasha

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-03-2007 21:54:

yeah...im just trying to find some old track listings without much success...when he played shit that never got a release even later on...you know...that kind of fresh...not 2 weeks later available on beatport in a conveniently packaged chart fresh.

thats because there's no limit to how many tracks can be released anymore and it can all be done so quickly

net releases are just too easy

Posted by UWM on Jul-03-2007 22:14:

And now we're criticizing people who spend their free time searching through music catalogs and finding new music as losers. Nice one!

not like he put it, that was a lawyers trick right there.

more than anything im critisizing the liveset aspect of dance music, its gotten boring. people think they know a dj because they heard some livesets.

danny tenaglia has the right idea here, fuck you if you want to record my shit, be there or fuck off

I demand a full apology to everyone who you abused & pissed off with your blatant fanboyism when we were right all along. A new thread should suffice. Thanks.

nowhere in there did i say people were idiots for finding good music

whats i meant was if the sole point is just to id every song in the mix and then call sasha not underground, thats where it gets stupid.

If he's going to heavily-advertise that he uses Ableton at every gig then it would be nice to see him doing more with it. That said, my experience has been hit and miss. The sets that I download vary from great to bleh, and the one time I saw him at the end of December I wasn't too thrilled.

However, I never rule out a DJ just from my first time seeing them. I have the option to see him again in September and I'll take it. Nobody can be perfect night after night, so seeing a DJ once and going, "Oh, well he has to be like that all of the time so fuck him!" isn't the way to go, in my opinion.
